Yeah...I love the films and love the books, but...

Jackson did awesome to bring Tolkein's incredible world, story and characters to life. Viggo WAS Aragorn, Hugo WAS Elrond, Christopher WAS Saruman. Elijah WAS Frodo. I have one question, thought, Mr Jackson. Well three. Where was Sharkey?, Where was the Scouring and where on all of Middle-Earth was Tom Bombadil?

ah ole Tom B....My son and I are fans of LOTR book and movies. Unfortunately there was no room for Tom, in the movie he didn't add to the story for many. I liked Tom and was always waiting for him to reappear in the books. An over all perception is that i looked forward to the movie and have to say it was well done as far as you can with a book to movie scenario. It only made me want to reread them...which I did.
Ha, I feel so out of the loop here, though I did manage to start Fellowship of the Ring and I LOVE Tom Bombadil, so I have to agree with you whole-heartedly. He has got to by one of the most intriguing and best characters I've encountered. I dunno if I can say with any certainty if the movies would have been better or worse with him added...perhaps keeping him out protected his legacy for true fans. Now I wanna try to read the whole trilogy from start to finish! I did love the movies, but know from experience that the books are always better (with anything, or very nearly).
I thought this might make you giggle… Your mention of Sharkey made the theme tune to Sharkey & George come up. Pleaaaaase tell me you remember Sharkey and George?!?! 🙈
Having not watched the movies or read the books, I have no idea what you're talking about but I'm sure they're all very excellent questions! 🍩🥐
Nowhere to be found. He had to cut some things, lest we all find ourselves at the theater twenty years later still only half way through the first movie. (Ah, but what a great movie that would have been, & well worth 20+ years of our lives!)
My issue was Gollum not being as dark as darkness. The books though...wow
This one is getting a lot of attention and rightly so. I can't argue with your brilliant assessment and the addenda are already showing up in the comments, so I'll just say, "Well done, sir," grab some popcorn and continue to read.
so you know what's funny, of all of these, and I'll toss in the addition of the elves at Helm's Deep as another oft-criticized decision, the handling of the return of the king (the omission of the Gray company and the sons of elrond, the rallying of Gondor, the liberation of Pelagir, and the final return to the Pelennor is my biggest gripe with the movie trilogy (and I say that while also putting Return of the King as my second favorite movie of all time).
I was sad there was no Fatty Lumpkin. 😫 The ending was so sappy, the Scouring would have been much better 😁
