It Happened One Night (1934)

A 50 word review of the blue-print of romantic comedies from the "Pre-Code" era

Colbert and Gable in the multi-oscar award winning It Happened One Night (1934)

Pre-code Hollywood brings feisty women and virile men, who save themselves for marriage (just).

It is of its time and place.

Time: smoking, transitory lives of the depression, inequality writ large, ‘playful’ slaps.

Place: American dream of self-reliance and long road trips.

Delightful and jarring – a little cosy masterpiece.
