A Murder to be Solved
Ever listen to a crime podcast, or watch a crime documentary, silently hoping that you will recognize someone, and help solve a case? I really enjoy listening to crime podcasts; not for that specific reason, but it always helps to pass the time when doing chores or mundane tasks. Depending on who I was listening to, or what I was watching, I'd even laugh at times. One day, however, there was this one particular documentary that changed my life forever.

Midnight Fate
“There’s just no way.” Antonio Pérez, a 10-year police officer in Chicago, Illinois, told his fellow officer. “I didn’t sign up for this.” But what Antonio said wasn’t quite true. It was his career he signed on for, and it was to be a full-time career. But in the meantime, he had a life to live. He had two daughters, both of whom were going to college, hoping one day they could join their father in law enforcement. The job he was being offered was as chief in a police department in Mexico. There were other things on his mind, too. His youngest daughter, who was only three years old, needed him to be home while his wife was pregnant.

Bennie.
“Bennie” was no ordinary chihuahua, besides being funny, he belonged to Laurie. Bennie was entirely black with a tiny white chest hair and head tip. He always sat quite upright. One could be forgiven for thinking Bennie was named after Benny Hill, the offside English comedian, because Bennie liked to grab hold off his tiny cheerio dick with his tiny little paws and jerk off on the carpet, usually underneath the couch. No he was Bennie after Benzodiazepines that Laurie sold from the MCDonalds drive through at the Chinderah truck stop On the Far North Coast.

Mark's Prey
The apartment was quiet except for the sound of water running into the tub. Mark sat on the edge of the tub watching steam roll off the water. The steam seemed to mix with the smoke of his cigarette. The smokey smell used to bother him, but since he had caught covid last year he hadn’t been able to smell it. He removed his boxers and threw them into the pile of dirty laundry he had needed to clean for weeks. He laid down in the tub and let the warm water engulf him. Water pooled over the side of the tub while he leaned back. He watched as it poured into the molding and floor of the bathroom. He had long since known he had lost his deposit on his apartment and didn’t care about the damage it was causing. His phone lit up. It sat precariously on the edge of the commode for easier access from his bath. He wiped his hands on the rugs his mother had bought and reached for his phone.

Knowing
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Danny paused at the front door of his own home, a neighboring log cabin visible through the trees. His gaze fixed on the unmistakable flicker of the candle's glow.

The Mask Maker
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Four friends headed out to the woods after they got off of work on Friday. They felt a camping trip may fix the tensions that had been occurring within their friend group. There was Jason, Kylie, Mark, and Hannah. Jason and Hannah had a relationship going on that Kylie found out about. Long story short, she was not happy about them. It was freezing out, right in the middle of December, and it seemed no fire could suffice their cold. Jason lifted a tightly packed bag up and turned it upside down, shaking it so poles fell out- material for putting tents together. They weren't sure how far they had traveled out, only that they were exhausted when they got there. "Jason, can you hurry up and put my tent up? My makeup is coming off..." Hannah glanced up from where she was sitting on a log. "Trying." Jason grunted in response.

Innocence
Sit down, take a deep breath and make sure you are concentrating. This story will be short and dark but make no mistake, it will not be an easy read. Within, there are truths and as we all know; some truths are harder to swallow than others. Ones about life are the hardest of all.
