If there is a story that exceeded the humane limits of manipulation, toxicity, and an imaginary false narrative, then this should be it. This is the story of Shayna Hubers, who lived up to the famous line that goes, "If I cannot have him, no one can."

It was an upsetting night of 12th October 2012, when Shayna Hubers killed her on-and-off boyfriend of 18 months, Ryan Poston, by shooting him six times standing in his condominium. What made Shayna kill her boyfriend?

Her Life Was an Off Stage Drama

Shayna Hubers | Photo Credits: CBS NewsShayna Hubers was born on April 8th, 1991, to a family in Lexington, Kentucky. Her life was seemingly full of contentment and one that she loved. She believed that she was flawless not only on the outside but on the inside as well.

Her academic life was the cherry on top because she was one of those kids who did well in everything. But, her extraordinary mind came back to bite her personal life in the worst ways possible. All of her emotions were ten times more intense than any other human. As a result, her relationships soon began to suffer since she could never accept rejection. Hence, her life behind closed doors was not as happy as it sounded.

Reportedly, Shayna's father sexually abused her during her puberty years. Even though these allegations were not proven, it does not mean they did not happen. Hence, presumably, her childhood trauma might have played a part in her future violent actions. Regardless of the reasons, Ryan was the one to suffer the most.

Obsessive Girlfriend Turned Stalker

That is when she met the 29-year-old Ryan Poston, who seemed a perfect match for the academically gifted Shayna. Upon graduating from his triple major, Ryan was then a full-time lawyer.

He came from a well-settled, happy family who was all close-knit and protective of each other. He had many people in his life who loved him dearly, and soon Shayna was added to the list. However, Shayna's way of showing love was beyond Ryan's understanding. And before he could step back, the girl forcefully became a part of each second of his life.

After only a few dates, Shayna had already begun thinking of marrying Ryan. In her eyes, he was the one, and she would not let him go. Ryan, however, thought differently. He was not ready for a serious relationship and wanted to take things slow. But who could stop a person who would do anything once they dedicated themselves to it?

Hence, the couple began to have issues early in their dating period. They would break up and patch up every other day. And in the course of their off-periods, Shayna would turn into a stalker, desperate to be in Ryan's life. She would send him countless messages, arrive at his office unannounced, and even keep an eye on whatever he did. In response to each text Ryan sent Shayna, she would send him 100 more.

Only Death Could Do Them Apart

He repeatedly told Shayna that she would be much happier without him, but at this point, Shayna was more obsessed than in love.

She would keep contemplating why would Ryan not be happy with her when she is both beautiful and intelligent? Even though Shayna was acutely insecure about Ryan's ex-girlfriends, she would never accept it. Then, Ryan had no choice but to let Shayna believe they were endgame. Hence, he stopped breaking up with her and wore a mask of pretentious love.

However, this meant Ryan would meet any girl he wanted as long as Shayna was unaware. There was only one problem: Shayna knew everything from start to finish. The obsessive girlfriend had access to Ryan's Facebook password and was alert of his meet-up with the reigning Miss Ohio, Audrey Bolte.

Then, on October 12, 2012, when Ryan was ready to go out for drinks with Audrey, Shayna arrived at his condo and refused to leave. Thinking from her point of view, it may have been her feeling of being betrayed that triggered her rage. Hence, she picked up Ryan's licensed gun from the table and killed him in cold blood. Just like that.

She Hummed and Danced After a Cold-Blooded Murder

However, at 9 pm that evening, she hysterically called 911 and informed them about shooting her boyfriend in self-defence. The reason was that her side of the story painted Ryan as an abusive boyfriend. And that he would beat her, sexually assault her and make her do things she was not comfortable doing.

But, Shayna was known to lie and make up things. Nonetheless, when brought to the police station, she showed more shocking signs. Her statements kept fluctuating, and without being asked, she began to explain why and how she shot Ryan. Creepily she mentioned,

"He's very vain. One of the last conversations we had was that he wants to get a nose job. And I shot him right here. I gave him the nose job he wanted."

In the footage, she's also heard singing a line from a song, "Yes, I did it." Presumably, it was her referring to finally killing her boyfriend. She repeatedly talked about how she saw Ryan's body twitching, and to save him from a slow death, she shot him multiple times.

Yet, it was chilling to see how she showed no remorse and wondered about how life would be behind bars.

"If you go to jail, are you allowed to keep your phone? … Can you shower there? Or do you just get really dirty? … I have to shower in front of people? Oh s***," she said.

Boyfriend Falls Victim to Her Childhood Rage

Shayna Hubers | Photo Credits: ABCNewsHer trial finally began in April 2015, three years after Ryan's murder. The prosecution threw out Shayna's entire case of self-defense because they had evidence linking Shayna to numerous reasons for killing Ryan cold-blooded.

Shayna Hubers was found guilty of convicted charges and was given 40 years of life in person. Despite that, her conviction was overturned a year later, as one of the jurors in her trial had been convicted of a felony. Her second trial began on 28th August 2018, and this time Shayna took the stand herself.

She tried to convince the jury of how unfair Ryan was to her and connected his behaviors with her alleged childhood abuse. However, none of her allegations could change anything. Shayna Hubers' life sentence with the possibility of parole after 20 years officially concluded on October 28, 2018. And to this day, she remains in the jail where she married and divorced a cell-mate, as well.
