My Nanna died last week.
Every Sunday I would walk the two-kilometre journey to her house to have Tea and listen to her tell me the stories of her youth. After the passing of my parents I was all she had left apart from my Cousin Arthur, but he never made the effort to visit as he would spend his days at the bar telling anyone who would listen about how if it wasn't for his ex-wife he could have made something of himself.
After the Funeral, Nanna's Lawyer asked myself and Arthur to accompany him to his office in the city, Arthur half pissed asked if I could drive him as it's the least I could do as my life was "together".
Sitting in the lawyer's office next to Arthur he smelt like Bourbon and Coke and was struggling to keep himself upright, Nanna's Lawyer addressed us both.
He Started with Arthur to which he read
"My Dearest Arthur, I know things have been difficult the last few years and I want you to try get your life on track, so to help you have another chance I leave you my house."
Arthur in his now drunken state responded,
"How the fuck am I meant to get my life together with her shit little house, ill burn it to the fucking ground and get the insurance money"
Nanna's Lawyer looking at Arthur in disgust then looks at me and reads
"My Dearest Michael, for your years of listening to my stories and keeping me company, I leave you with my best story of all, it's all written here in this little black book"
To which the Lawyer then passed onto to me.
Confused but appreciative I take the book and sit it on my lap to read later.
Nanna's Lawyer advises that that is all and we may be excused.
Arthur starts to carry on asking
"Where is all her money?! I know that bitch was fuckin' loaded she didn't spend money on shit!"
I Drag Arthur out of the office and throw him into the car to have him complain the whole way home that Nanna really fucked him over.
After dropping Arthur home, I come home to sit in my chair and start reading through Nanna's little black book.
It reads,
"Michael thank you for keeping me company in my remaining years I didn't want this read out in my will because I know how upset it would make Arthur. To you I leave the remainder of my investment properties and my bank accounts to do so as you please, thank you Love Nanna"
With tears in my eyes I hold the book close to me as a fall asleep.
The next day I went about finalising the remainder of Nanna's Assets and bank accounts to be used to continue Nanna's years of hard work.
While at the bank unbeknown to me, Karen the President of the PTA was in line behind me listening to me tell the teller about the plans I had to continue Nanna's hard work, Well word quickly spread around town about my newly acquired wealth which lead to Arthur.
Arthur in his drunken state drove to my house and began pounding on my door telling me to
"get my bitch ass outside", not knowing word had spread I opened the door to him stumbling through the door telling me that he knew Nanna had left me all her wealth.
I attempted to reason with Arthur, but it was no use. After 15 minutes of arguing I screamed at Arthur to get out of my house, Arthur retaliated and knocked me unconscious.
I woke up in the boot of his car with the little black book still in my pocket, I knew Arthur would kill me for this money so I reached for anything I could to defend myself but it was no use the boot was empty it was just me and Nanna's little black book. The car came to a stop. It was dark, I could hear Arthur muttering to himself as he made his way to the rear of the car.
As he got close, I clutched Nanna's book and waited, as he opened the boot of the car, I swung Nanna's book and split open his cheek. I jumped out of the boot and began to stomp on his throat until he could not move any more.
Crying and scared, I knew he was dead I pat him down to find anything to help me, all I could find was a lighter. I get into Arthur's car and drive it into a tree dazed and confused I crawl out of the car and grab Arthur, my bones were hurting I had a shooting pain running down my leg but I dragged Arthur into the driver's seat and buckled him in. I took his lighter and lit the leaky oil patch under his sump within minutes the car was alight.
I found my way home and rested.
The next day the Sheriff arrived at my doorstep hat on heart to advise me that Cousin Arthur had died in a drunk driving accident. The Sheriff noticed I was cut and bruised and asked what had happened. I informed the Sheriff
"Arthur had driven to my house drunk last night and assaulted me as he had found out that Nanna had left me all her assets and money, I was knocked unconscious when I awoke he was gone along with his car"
The Sheriff concluded that after our argument he had left home and lost control of his vehicle into a tree as he had been done on multiple attempts of drink driving.
No one attended Arthur's Funeral, no one ever found out I was the one who murdered him.
