The lost monocle
Our story takes us back, back farther than we dare to wonder, to the start of the 18th century. It's a dark misty night on the banks of lake Serpentine, the fog drags across the lake like a lost ghostly mother searching for her lost wanderlings. The moonlight hides an eery feeling of lust and despair of 18th century London. In the distance, a light comes crawling closer. It's Elizabeth, a young beautiful redheaded maiden making her way back from a long night's work at the Rusty Raven In where she does everything from cleaning rooms to cleaning tombs. The lantern is dangling at a slight angle showing her tiredness but is moving faster showing her urge to get home and fall in her dusty old splintered bed.

Best Practices Tip Sheet
Abstract Libel can be a tricky topic. Dependent upon elements as well as the medium, it could be slander or libel, or both. Knowing the elements to identify as well as other criteria will benefit those who believe they have been defamed in some way. This “Tip Sheet” is here to aid me in my future research and projects for this course.

The Accused
The ride to the station took 10 minutes, but to John it seemed like an hour. Upon arrival, lights from the media lit up the block. Johns bloody shirt was like a red scarlet letter. The minute the police opened the door, the media were like vultures. The questions were never ending.

How to Feel Safe at Night
It is late, some would even call it early. You are alone, en route from your location to your mode of transportation, whether it be your car, the bus or subway, or even a taxi or rideshare; or, you live close enough to head directly home. The streets are empty, for the most part, save for the few straggling patrons spilling out the closing bars and perhaps a few houseless travelers, dozing on the sidewalks. It's dark. The streetlights offer little but a yellow haze directly below, leaving the rest of the street enveloped in an inky and mysterious blackness. You know this route like the back of your hand. You have traveled it every day for months or even years. You know which lights to cross at, where there are imperfections in the sidewalk to avoid and even the scents wafting from the various restaurants and cafes by heart. For some of us, this scenario is immediately familiar, a snapshot of our daily lives. The question is: when you put yourself in the situation and become the person it describes, how do you feel? Do you feel content? Rushed? Are you at ease with your surroundings? Or are you like 61% of the population? Are you afraid?

The Experiment
Chicago; the city I'd come to call home. It wasn't the most ideal place in The United States, and like all major cities Chicago had it's share of problems. It was, however, the only city on earth that made me feel like I was contributing to something bigger than myself. With how quickly the world was picking itself back up, just two years after the China pandemic, Chicago had seen a number of disasters it was trying to repair itself from; economic disaster, high murder rates, riots, thousands of arrests, escalated numbers of homelessness, children orphaned before they were able to crawl. One could go on forever about how many other similar disasters were happening.

The Dragon
Clicking on the keys sounded with an echo in the dimly lit shell of a room. A twin bed, with slept in sheets and thin pillow filled one wall. A book shelf and desk filled the other side of the room. The rest was bare, not lived in. This room as a whole, barely lived in, almost deserted. Rain fell down in large droplets outside, banging against the windows in a fury. The glass creates a fog, as his hands glide across the keys as a pianist does a finely tuned piano. He looks up and in a daze walks over to the window wiping away the condensation with a torn bloody sleeve. Walking back he sits at the desk and sighs before typing again.
