US Prison Population
As a former inmate of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, I am not only appalled at the rate of incarceration in Ohio but throughout the United States. The information I will share here is available to every citizen, but most are oblivious to its effect on our society or just do not care. When I arrived at the Ohio State Penitentiary in 1984 they were preparing to close the prison for good and at that time there were only 13 prisons in Ohio. During my nine-year and ten-month incarceration, that number grew to 22 and today it is at 27 prisons throughout the state. The chart below from the Prison Policy Initiative shows the steady rise in Ohio's prison incarceration rate.

The Last Time
The rain tapped against the window like small fingers trying to get her attention. Her thoughts could not be disturbed, not tonight. She took a pull on her Marlboro Menthol. The action made her wince from the pain in her now swollen left cheek. The pain made her think. She didn't like that. It made her look back at the last time, and when that happened she couldn't help but question herself. “Why did I not leave after the last time?” What was it that made me stay after the last time” He had promised her that it was the last time.

Bathed in Blood
Chapter 2 - Missing Note: I have never found writing to be an easy venture. To write about an event so many years after its occurrence means that I have to rely on memory. Writing about my past is also something foreign to my normally humble attitude to life. However, stories sometimes need to be told, for many reasons. In this case the facts are diminished by using only my memory rather than applying for access to the case files.

Bathed in Blood Chapter 1 Should one believe in the twilight zone, a situation that is characterized by being mysterious? Do we have connections with people early in our life that somehow reconnects later in life? Such has been the circumstance in my life. A connection with people that have revisited me in a different way.

Perfection
Alice was full of nervous energy. Could this be the one? The guy she’s been looking for? She couldn’t remember how many dates she had been on in the last month, all duds. She was ready to be done with dating apps, and hopefully tonight’s date would finally put an end to all of the disappointment and creepy messages.
