A murder in Boston and Charles Dickens's final novel
Charles Dickens’s “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” has posed many mysteries of its own down the years, not least that of how Dickens intended to conclude the book. He died on 9th June 1870 from a stroke, having written his final words only a few hours before, with possibly half of the intended text still unwritten.

Heartless- Divulgence
Upon opening unit 27s door Jay is greeted to an empty dark and ambiguous room. It smelled of dust with a handful of exceptional spider webs randomly arranged in the unit. There was a black folding chair in the very back of the unit with something on the seat. With no light in the unit Jay scrambles and reaches in his left pocket pulling out his phone dropping the note he found in his car. Overlooking the note, he mishandled Jay turns on his phones flashlight and approaches the chair and mysterious object. With every step, creeping closer and closer the black folding chair reminds him of family cookouts from his childhood. Reminiscing about squirt guns and water balloons in the summers of Detroit he notices what's sitting on the chair. It's a napkin. A napkin covering a 4-inch droplet bottle with a note with bold letters screaming "HANDLE WITH CARE". Examining the droplet bottle, it was filled with a slimy substance. Glue- like in appearance but it was more of a liquid then a solid. On the side of the bottle was a red label which read "Substance M". Wrapping Substance M in the napkin for safe keeping he tucks the bottle in his right jacket pocket. Turning to leave the unit and continue on with the operation, he leaves the note from his car behind. He goes into the trunk of his car and pulls out a black oversized hoodie, sweatpants and a black ski mask. He covers what clothes he was already wearing with the loose-fitting hoodie and sweatpants to attempt to hide his identity and starts his journey in pursuit of the final step of this mischievous arrangement.

Mr. Can
The room was blue, a pale blue and the man sitting there in the chair in the back corner of the room was worried that he was not going to be believed, that his story was not good enough to free him from the bonds that bind him. He sat there cuffed to the table, the metal table made a clinging noise like a pot falling on a linoleum floor. The sound was the only thing that was heard. There was no one entering the room from the door on the right, his sight limited to one hundred eighty degrees, where if he were able to spin there would be something more. There was however an open window on the left with bars dropping down on the remaining three. Why was the window open? He thought. But there too, he was awaiting an answer from someone.

Abra Cadaver
There I sat four rows behind my girl Danny in mortuary science. Last semester we took Biology of the Human Body which was the prerequisite to this class together. So at least I wasn’t bored alone. Professor Senad was cool but I still found myself annoyed with yet another professor that feels they were in the profession to re-sculpt young minds. To me they should be working on the minds we already have, then cultivate from there, but who am I? Even as an adult the student mentality warranted juvenile dictation. Senad was different in every way except in that regard. He was the youngest professor in South Eastern and he was still old enough to feel as though re-sculpting was still on the table, even if it were only for the clones or the mindless. This school was a straight up battle of the clone wars. There was nothing wrong with the class but I was trying to build on my business. Studying wasn’t exactly something I had much time for over the last few month and to be honest I’m falling behind. The midterm was in two days and the only thing I had was a page and a half in notes. Danny wasn’t doing too great either but probably knew a lot more considering she had already taken a nursing program. Either way I had a plan. Professor Senad was going to have four cadavers with separate medical issues. He was going to pair us up in teams of five and have each group conduct an autopsy on them to find out what each person’s cause of death was. My plan was simple. Senad was having the cadaver’s delivered late this evening so instead of sneaking in tonight I’ll wait until about four or five in the morning, sneak into the basement take a quick peak at them and the files that came with each. Senad is always working super late so I doubted that he would bother taking them home with him. With that I continued scribbling songs in a notebook titled Class Notes. As I gazed at a beautiful blue sky and Senad’s baby blues, taking in both beauties separately. Even though I revered sexuality to be as fluid as attraction I had to be honest, he was indeed handsome. Tall, slim build, sandy brown hair tapered in a flattering cut, he wore a cute reading glasses that somehow made his eyes even more luminous. He also had an accent that I believe was Russian but he spoke in a tone I could tell most weren’t used to. He wasn’t loud brut or off putting. His voice was gentle yet firm, backed with knowledge and eloquence. Normally he is threaded from top to bottom in cliché college professor gear. Khakis, a dressy button up of some sort, even in the summer, but today he wore black jeans and a gray polo. I was actually surprised. Others have said not once has anyone ever seen this guy dressed down.

The Ugly Phenomenon Of Asian Hate!
After hearing about the events of Asian hate crimes over the past year and then seeing the event in Atlanta, I got to thinking about it and discussing it with a friend. I'll grant, what he said, made sense to me on some level. He told me if everyone thought about it as simply as I did maybe it would be a better place. Granted, my thought process is simple sometimes. Especially when it comes to people. Because people are far too complex to be simplified. It's frustrating though, so I'm going to have a frank discussion on paper about hate.

Death by Fake Gurus
Many people fall for a scam at some point in their lives. I know I have. Most of us forget about it and carry on, but for some, that’s not an option. When a get-rich-scam or a self-help seminar goes wrong it can have drastic consequences — from suicide to negligent homicide.

The Sociopathic Protagonist
If you are like me, you don’t enjoy anything more than cuddling up on the couch in fuzzy pajamas, oversized fleece blanket, a full glass of bottom shelf red wine, and a new murder mystery show. Crime shows have been airing on all platforms as long as I can remember, way before I was born twenty-something years ago. They’ve got it all. True crime shows such as Forensic Files and The Ripper docuseries are basically science-based history lessons on how sociopaths came to be and the nitty gritty details of the rape and murderous rampages they went on. Fictional police-oriented shows, like my favorites Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and CSI: Miami, delve into the lives of detectives and the events they may face trying to crack the case. And lastly we were given a series starring the murderous sociopath as the main character himself. Although I find all crime cinema completely fascinating, it is quite insightful to watch the plot unfold through the eyes of a protagonistic sociopath.
