The Murder Case that Inspired Agatha Christie’s "Murder on the Orient Express"
It was nearly ten in the evening when nanny Betty Gow went to check on her charge, a sweet, beaming boy with golden curls and plump cheeks. She had planned, perhaps, merely to look in on him as he slept, to ensure that all was well in the second-floor nursery.

The five teens attacked Jose, who desperately fought for his life. The teens kicked and punched Jose repeatedly, then began smashing him in the face with the machete until it caved in. Jose was thrown into the grave and buried alive. Jose's brother found him deceased several days later. His face was so badly disfigured, Jose's brother barely recognized him.

Maria Gruber, Irene Leidolf, Stephanija Meyer, and Waltraud Wagner were nurse aides at the Lainz General Hospital in Austria, who systematically murdered scores of patients between 1983 and 1989.
