"This is gonna be the easiest $18K I've ever made." He exhales relaxedly, aiming his rifle downward slightly more. "Just like riding a bike." He says as he exhales again, pulling the trigger at the end of his breath. "Annnnd, another one bites the dust." He says as he takes a zoomed in photograph of the assassination from the rooftop.
Taking odd jobs and working as a cashier just don't pay out enough for someone like me, I'm ready to start living a more financially secure life. I want to be able to own my house, not rent or lease an apartment. So I began doing another means of work.. something a little more up my alley. Assassination contracts.
With every contract I receive there's already diplomatic immunity, an alibi story to cover my tracks, and basically everything is laid out for me in the way I need it to be, in order to be successful at this, and to not leave a trail behind me.
However, this will be what I'm doing from now on whenever I need work.
.
"Okay, time to flee the scene." He says under his breath, standing up off of his vantage point and unscrewing his rifle, first removing the supressor.
He continues to dismantle his weapon, and puts the pieces in his carrying case, hanging it over his shoulder and walking down the stairs of the rooftop to the inside of the building, and finally out of the front door.
"Come on, pick up, pick up." He says as he frantically rushes to his car with his carrying case, holding a phone to his ear.
The phone goes to voicemail.
"Uhh hey, it's me, codename copperhead. The garbage has been taken out, please inform me when you receive this voicemail."
He received a notification on his phone from his bank account about a payment for $18,000.00.
Now, allow me to give a little backstory on the kill target, and some backstory on our killer.
His name was Anthony Cunningham, and he was a very important political figure. He used to work for the UN, and his next meeting would decided which president got elected.
He had three children, an ex wife, and billions of dollars. This was a difficult kill to set up, because nobody knew where he would be for long enough to take him out, they'd just barely, in a spur of the moment fashion, found out about a dinner meeting he'd be having with his daughter. An inside agent asked to use his phone and found the location and time for the company sending out this assassin.
Oh yeah, and our assassin? His name's d'angelo wade. He was chosen for his first assassination in 2014. He'd just recently began that line of work and actually managed to rake in a very high profile customer.
He started looking for assassination work shortly after he'd broken the world record for the highest stats in an online multiplayer lobby for "Line of Duty" an online fire-team based videogame. He had the opportunity to become a professional league player for Line of Duty, but with all of the killing on his mind, he figured he'd rather try and get a taste of the real thing. Thus spawned his curiosity for hitman jobs, and how we ended up here today.
But of course, his aim in real life definitely surpasses that of his online gaming career aim, which is why he's gotten so much work from this profession thus far.
His kill on Anthony would mark his 35th assassination since March, 2014.
It's currently February of 2021.
Most of his assassination jobs were assigned to him by the same high profile individual who'd originally found him.
His previous kills only netted him about $12,000 to $15,000 each.
This, being his highest paying job is a milestone.
It also opens up the doors for more jobs by this gentleman, or others like him who need someone to disappear.
D'angelo is fairly poor, so he plans on using the money from this job to buy a new house, and to get a new car if there's enough leftover.
D'angelo was an only child in a separated household, his parents were divorced for most of his life.
His favorite rifle is the Barrett M82A2.
"Finally safe, let me remove his name."
He says as he opens up his little black book of kill names, crossing out Anthony's name.
He keeps his little black book locked away in a safe, where nobody will find it, until he takes it with him to the targets to scratch off their names.
He didn't leave a trace at the place where he'd just assassinated Anthony.
D'angelo finally got home, after a day's worth of cleaning up behind himself and retracing his steps, and he goes online to shop for houses.
The nicest looking simple home that he can find is actually listed for $35,000.
"I'm a few thousand short..." He says disheartened by the fact that assassination jobs aren't an everyday thing, and he begins to job hunt.
His search is becoming endless, as it's very difficult for him to find something he'd enjoy to do for work..
Minutes turn to weeks, and weeks have gone by with no set job.
He's finally ready to give up on his search and forget about his dream first home, his monthly payments for his apartment still taking a huge chunk out of his funds for the house.
After so much time passes, he eventually actually gets a new target for a new assassination.
A very high class civilian, valued at $18,000. This will be his second $18,000 kill.
"Well, hail marys do exist.."
He begins packing up a few suitcases of the items he needs for this job,
"Time to update my little black book."
He says as he adds a name and address to his kill list.-- "Charles Monticello"
"Something about that name seems familiar" he says, unable to remember where he recognizes the name from.
He gets into his car, driving to the hotel he'll be staying at near the vantage point.
The meeting that the target will be attending is at 5PM, there's a building right next to the hotel with a clear view of the boardroom from the vision of a sniper scope.
"It's 4:30... I'd better get to my vantage point."
"Time to shine, daisy." He says to his rifle, carrying the case for it to the stairwell to reach the roof of the building.
His rifle assembled, silencer and scope attached, he lays down on the rooftop and aims at the building where the target will be having a meeting.
"Quite the high profile target, what'd this man do for our country??" He says to himself, aiming down the sights of his rifle.
5:00PM quickly approaches, and he finally sees the target in his sights, at the location.
"There you are.." he says, putting out his cigarette and adjusting his aim.
"God bless America." He says as he exhales and pulls the trigger.
The target is eliminated, he takes a photograph and waits for the scene to be fled before he begins to leave.
He gets his rifle all disassembled and starts walking back down the stairs, headed to his car to flee the scene. Shell casing already picked up, he drives home.
He thinks nothing more of the job, nor of the familiar name.
"Now, I can get my house..."
A few days pass, as he's making one last sweep to see which house is his favorite, now that he's $18,000 richer.
And he gets up to check the mail.
In the mailbox and addressed to him, there's an envelope, marked "from 'Charlie Monticello'".
with $20,000, and an invitation to a will reading ceremony.
"A will...? Am I missing something?? What would he possibly give me? And $20,000?? You're telling me there's more than that?? This is unreal.." he begins to wonder if this is a setup by someone who knows he's the killer, so eventually he loads up his pistols and puts them into his jacket, and heads to the will reading ceremony.
"Sir, there's a special portion of this where he speaks directly to you. We're going to show you this alone, as he's left other things to others personally to be shown to them in private as well.
You may want to sit down for this."
"Alright, thanks.."
He's hoping that it isn't noticeable that he's armed, as he sits down in the chair they provided.
"Hello, D'Angelo. You may be wondering why I have you here. Well, it's because I wanted someone of your calibur and your services to be my successor for this company. Surely a man like you would be able to handle that. So I'm leaving you everything from my company, my stocks and shares, and control of the company as CEO, as well as the $20,000 that I'm assuming you've already got. I've been a fan of your work since the day my coworker Janet told me about you. Have a blessed day! I may be long gone, but my assets for you are just getting started."
Janet was the name of the high profiled individual we'd mentioned earlier, the one that found D'angelo and gave him most of his jobs.
It all made sense now, the reason the name was familiar, the money, the company, it was because Charlie Monticello was Janet's employer. He was the boss... So the reason he arranged this will, was because he put the hit out on himself..
"Wow, now I'm $20,000 richer, and I have an entire company... I think I'm Janet's new boss.." he says, dumbfounded at the events in their entirety.
"Alright, thank you for your time sir."
The man says as he escorts D'angelo out of the building.
"Now I'm definitely getting myself a nice house!" D'angelo says leaping for joy into the street.
He goes house shopping eagerly and takes his time.
The very important, high profile head of a company of someone who hired D'angelo ended up giving the whole company and $20,000 to D'angelo after putting a hit on himself, and now d'angelo is going to get an even more luxurious home than he was before.
