Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution - First Degree Murder

Arnoldo Jimenez, an American wanted for questioning, was born on February 19, 1982, and his name was added to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list on May 8, 2019. He is wanted for the 2012 slaying of his wife, Estrella Carrera, who was discovered dead in a bathtub at her Burbank, Illinois, apartment the day after their wedding. Jimenez was the 522nd fugitive on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. A reward of up to $100,000 is being offered by the FBI for information that results in his capture. On May 11, 2012, Arnoldo Jimenez and Estrella Carrera were married at Chicago City Hall.

Carrera had two kids—a 2-year-old son with Jimenez and a 9-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. The couple ate dinner that evening with family and friends before going to a club, which they left around four in the morning on May 12. The FBI thinks the couple had a heated argument in Jimenez's black 2006 four-door Maserati on the way home. After repeatedly stabbing Carrera to death in his car, Jimenez dragged her lifeless body into her apartment. Carrera was still donning the silver dress she had worn to her wedding when her body was discovered in the bathtub of her apartment. On May 12, Carrera was supposed to pick up her kids from family members, but she never did.

The police were then notified by her family that she was missing. The afternoon of May 13 saw the discovery of her body inside her apartment. The police said they had found no evidence of a forced entry. Additionally, Jimenez had vanished, and his car was nowhere to be found. On May 15, three days later, Jimenez was charged with first-degree murder, and a state arrest warrant was issued. He was charged with fleeing the country unlawfully to avoid prosecution on May 17.

When detectives started looking for Jimenez, they discovered that he had used his cellphone in Chicago and southern Illinois on May 12. Later, it was applied in Arkansas and Memphis, Tennessee. He had placed calls on May 13 from Houston and later from Hidalgo, Mexico. Police detained Humberto Jimenez, Jimenez's brother, for drug possession in September 2012. Police searched Arnoldo's property and found his black Maserati in the garage. Police came to the conclusion that Jimenez had killed Carrera in his car and dragged her body into the bathtub inside her apartment after blood was discovered inside the vehicle. According to the police, Humberto left Arnoldo in Mexico after driving him there. Jimenez may still be hiding out in Durango, Mexico, specifically in the Santiago Papasquiaro neighbourhood, according to the FBI. Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, is another possible hiding place for him. (Arnoldo Jimenez - Wikipedia, 2019)

Jimenez had been on the run ever since, though it wasn't until the recent DNA test results came in that authorities were able to confirm his involvement in the murder As a result of these findings, authorities had requested that the Mexican government help apprehend him in either Santiago, Papasquiaro, or Reynosa The Mexican authorities had already been searching for Jimenez since the original reports of his involvement in the murder, but due to a lack of concrete evidence, their search was unsuccessful until the DNA results came in With the new evidence in hand, Mexican law enforcement was now able

to focus their efforts more precisely on where Jimenez could be hiding Jimenez had managed to evade law enforcement since the crime was first committed, and it wasn't until the DNA test results came in that authorities were able to accurately identify him as the murderer This was the pivotal moment in the investigation, and it was clear that without this crucial evidence, apprehending Jimenez would have been far more difficult
