What shocked Kim the most was the fact that she could play. She used the Internet to play the Game of Ur with Yawquisha.

“You can go,”the younger woman suggested.

Kim took the piece and moved it on the board.

“I’m getting all sorts of reports about missing yellow women. I’m going live to talk about it.”

“I’m looking into it….” Kim admitted.

“You’re investigating?”

“No. I’m simply taking time to understand what is going on here.”

The women continued the game; each move seemed precise and well thought out on both sides.

“What I want to understand is why these chicks get flewed out and expect to not come up missing. It just doesn’t make any sense.”

“I should know. I’ve been looking at the profiles. Whoever is picking up these women is doing it with stealth and silence. Whoever it is infiltrates the various channels and still comes up with a victim. I mean I know this is the Internet but goddamn.”

In the Game of Ur, Yawquisha proved to be too skilled and bested Kim.

“Want to go another round?” Yawquisha asked.

“No. I’m fine. You got me.”

Yawquisha didn’t have time to savor her victory. She stood at her balcony and moved about which caused a rustling noise.

“Are you moving furniture over there?”

“I’m just moving from my little perch here. It’s great.”

“Okay. Just as long as you weren’t wrapping wire around your neck....”

“Wow! Almost literal gallows humor. I never expected from you,” she said dryly.

“I really want to get hold of these cases. They seem so unique and different and weird. They remind me of a case in the early 2000’s. Some small boys about six or seven years old were actually being rounded by a group which claimed they were amorous towards them. Six were brutalized and another six were killed. The detectives on the case brought up the fact the children had all been lured on a kid’s site by adults. They decided to get into cars with strangers. They took them to a shed and stole their innocence and their lives.”

“They’re grown men now who carry the trauma of what happened to them and their friends. It’s something they’ll never forget. Hell, I’ll never forget.”

“This case with the women seems just as spooky. It appears as if there is some link with the Internet connection. The world had been turned sideways with these devices and apps. We can't go anywhere without a QR code and we both know what that can lead to. I don’t care, I’m going to express my thoughts carefully and hopefully cogently. I will look for that special spot to speak about the background of these women.”

Kim looked at the Game of Ur. She had within her stomach a vice that turned and turned. She wasn’t nauseous but slightly queasy. The sense that she had to throw up didn’t even register.

“Are you okay? It looks like you smelled death.”

“I’ve actually smelled death and this ain’t it. This is a disturbing feeling of hatred mixed with rage. I’m thoroughly offended by the reality of the situation. It’s nasty that one would consider doing these things. I no longer have a gun or badge, but I’m still going to find a way to my own sleuthing.”

“Absolutely. There’s enough space in this tiny city for someone to hide bodies. These women should be alerted before the next victim is claimed. That’s what we should do. We should have a standard where the government only safeguards creeps and sickos out there.”

“It makes sense.”
