"That you, Adamu Shaibu, between April and August, 2021 in Lokoja, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court did maintain the control of the amount of $164 USD via a cashapp you fraudulently received from one Baraman, which you knew to be result of criminal action and therefore committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 17 (a) & (b) of the Economic and Financial Crimes (Establishment) Act, 2004."
The individuals who prosecuted the cases on behalf of the Commission, Rasheedat Alao and Aliyu Adebayo, presented the statements and objects that were collected from the defendants as evidence and requested the courts to convict them of the crimes for which they were on trial.
Adamu was given a sentence of three years in jail on each of the three charges that were brought against him by Justice Sani. However, Adamu was given the option of receiving one hundred percent of what he benefitted from. The court issued an order that the convicted individual's two mobile phones and a draft that he had brought with him as compensation be confiscated and sent to the Federal Government.
In addition to this, the court gave Olasupo a sentence of three years in jail on each of the two charges that were brought against him, with the option of paying a fine of N1,043,171 on Count One and N10,840,574.86 on Count Two.
The convicted individual is going to have to hand over to the federal government the two phones and the MacBook that he used in the commission of the crime, as ordered by the court.
On the other side, Aguh was sentenced to two years in jail or a fine of N400,000, whichever was greater (Four Hundred Thousand Naira Only). In addition to that, he is going to have to give up his 2014 Toyota Camry car, his Apple iPad Pro, his Samsung S9, and his iPhone 6S.
Equally, Justice Sani handed Ridwan a prison sentence of two years with the option of a N200,000 (two hundred thousand Naira) fine and ordered the forfeiture of one infinix phone, which he used as an instrumentality of the crime. Ridwan was given the option of paying the fine instead of serving the prison sentence.
In the case of Qozeem, Justice Yusuf handed down a sentence that included either six months in jail or a fine of N100,000 (just one hundred thousand Naira).
