African American Serial Killers Part 5
Over‐Represented Yet Under-acknowledged
Thorough investigations often lead to arrests. Such is what happened with Chester Turner. The power of DNA analysis has truly been a double-edged sword. In one instance, the process can free an individual from years of bondage. In cases like Turner’s, he would experience the flipside of this arrangement. His DNA linked him to a string of murders in the Figueroa section of Los Angeles. In fact, this activity took place while he stood in a prison cell.
Known as the “Southside Strangler,” Turner preyed upon women and ensured their brutalization. While being homeless, he began this immoral and evil stretch of crimes. By the time he had been employed as a security guard at a homeless shelter, he had been apprehended for his crimes.
In one instance, he slayed a woman named Regina Nadine Washington who had been five months pregnant. Authorities ruled the murder of the would-have-been mother including the death of the fetus and recognized the unborn baby’s death a homicide…for the moment.
This is where things should be made clear. An unborn child has not been individuated from the mother. Therefore, it is a potential human being. Law courts overturned the conviction of murder against the fetus, seemingly having discovered this fact.
The other murders stuck however. With the apparent unstrategic actions made by Turner, this only aided in the capture and eventual prosecution of this monster.
When the evidence had been weighed, law enforcement officials saw the patterns and could hone in on the Figueroa horror. What made it seem as if he had some sinister intelligence remained the fact he had a specific victim in mind and mainly covered a specific location. Again, all the women just happened to he black and in the prime of their lives.
Turner’s twisted sense of how to overpower and strangle the life out of these women shows a coward who is currently on death row. His wicked acts only show how a child can carry out the most sadistic actions if left unchecked.
One authority mentioned that he would have continued killing had there not been solid evidence pointing in Turner’s direction. The sickness of his crimes paints a portrait of a wicked mind with no game and the impossibility to undo the irreversible acts he committed.
Bodies found in fields and wooded areas is a textbook in most homicidal, serial cases. What is also textbook in this case is the fact Turner witnessed domestic violence, experienced physical abuse, and saw the mean streets of South Central Los Angeles, California. While these represent hallmarks in a serial killer’s make-up, they’re no excuse. There’s a divergence where anyone who looks at the initiation of spousal force, is molested or battered, and lives in an oppressive environment can choose a path, a good or evil, construction or destruction. Turner sadly chose the latter.
Of course, he knew how to victimize women who may have gone through similar acts and experiences. He could let them relax and enjoy his company before taking their lives in brutal fashion. As a murderer on the level of a person who could have been executive or medical professional or law court official, Turner had the options in front of him.
As a child, his being bullied contributed to an attitude the world lurked to get after him. In his mind, he may have noted that he would steal everyone’s thunder. In adolescence and adulthood, he would lean back on the side of the terrible imp that would wreak havoc on the lives of women.
And again, these women no one but their families cared about. It’s just a fact that Turner knew whom he could extinguish like wood in a fire pit.
In his youth, additionally, he began using drugs to cope with his lows. The harm this caused to his already developing brain only contributed to his dastardly disposition. In order to deal with his own internal, psychological disadvantages, he opted for the worst things one human can do to another.
And it was not just humans. During an altercation with a police officer, Turner managed to abuse a K-9 service dog. With this charge against him, he had to be noticed for his actions even as a young person. What went largely unnoticed remained his attitude towards young girls. During his teens, he received the nickname “Chester the Molester” for his sexual assaults on these females. No school officials looked twice. In his day, sexual assault just wasn’t viewed in the same light, unfortunately. But this focused on the tell-tale sign of a complete ogre.
