My Devils

Introduction

This happens to me often, my inner demons conspire to stop me from writing, and really don't like it when I hit back at them.

Dealing With My Devils

I like being creative and at first, thought there were only two communities on Vocal that allow for original unchecked creativity, Fiction and Poetry. Actually, there are a few more such as Art, Humour, Crime, Chapters Horror and Futurism so I was wrong there.

While I am too indisciplined to use Chapters to post a serial or series, I have still dropped five stories in there, but nothing for about a year.

I almost didn't write this piece, questions were flying in my head,

"Why Are You Writing This?"

"Do You Have Anything To Say?"

And the one that always comes up

"Why Bother, No One Will Be Interested?"

The reality is that most of my posts get six or seven comments and likes with the odd one hitting ten or twenty and I still get forty or fifty reads even if I don't post a story (which is seldom as you know).

I have done a lot like this in the past to let other Vocal Creators know there is at least one out there who has these issues.

This is also the Imposter Syndrome coming into play:

"How Dare I Write And Publish Something On Vocal When I Am Not A Real Writer Or Poet"

I know what other Vocal Creators tell how much they like my work and a wonderful friend (not on Vocal) told me she loves everything I do when she bought my latest book:

So I know people like what I do, and therefore I should keep doing it.

The Demons in my head tell me I am being lazy writing poetry, and my fiction is not worth the time it takes to read it, even my microfiction.

I do believe in myself and so do many others.

My work is excellent and I will continue believing this.

I was speaking to a lady on the bus and told her I had self-published some books and she was incredibly interested and asked my name. In that position, you can't share a link with them and the chances are she has already forgotten my name. Then I thought, maybe we should carry business cards with our Vocal profile on them, so if they do have internet access they can find and read our work.

I suggested that she look for me on Amazon.

So the thing is just going out can clear your mind and put those devils back where they belong so they don't affect your creativity. I know sometimes you don't have immediate material to create something, but I have created this piece out of nothing and I feel I can now produce some poetry, fiction and a BEAT piece to keep me feeling that I can produce something interesting.

Conclusion

I do drop many stories and poems to find they have no comments, which I find a little sad so I always leave a comment in the stories I read. I know I love getting comments on my work and I do like sharing new music with people as well.

So I was unable to write so I wrote about what I do when I am unable to write, and this story/article that you are reading is what happened.
