The Mask Slips
All things considered, the lecture Theo received from his father could've been worse. At the very least, it was short and to the point. He didn't even mention the fresh bruise on Theo's nose. If he even bothered to notice it at all, that is. Thaddeus had already left for work when Theo got up the next morning, leaving the seventeen-year-old to fend for himself for breakfast. As usual. Although he headed off to school without so much as a "good morning" note from his father, Thaddeus Quill's words from the night before still rang clearly in Theo's ears.

Brass Ring Chapter 4: Time to Get Going
Don Pelegrine looked over the resumes of those he had chosen to participate in the heist. Tran “Pinball Wizard” Kung would be providing all of the technical expertise; he and the tools inside his spheroid battle-suit should be able to handle the security software and associated technology. He should enable the team to get into the vault and then exit it under full cover. He had also been the first to arrive; he had fortunately been leading a symposium just a few cities away.

Tattoos & Rail Guns Chapter 3: A World Recreated
Lieutenant Sawyer couldn't help but superimpose the past onto the future as they walked to the dretch's home. Even a few years ago the area they were walking through would have been a bustling small town, with people crowding the sidewalks and hovercars swarming the road. The sun would be gleaming off the buildings. Rapid City, South Dakota, had become a metropolis by 2098, on the cutting edges of cybernetics and material technology, as well as near the largest herds of bison.

Memoir | Ms. Donatella | Part VI of VI
During my time at the Department of Prominence, I held the position of telecommunication specialist, working on the shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The communication center was predominantly male, but there were also six women, including me, working on different shifts. This meant that there were always two women working alongside the men during my shift. One of my colleagues was Ms. Donatella, a kind and quiet woman who always seemed to be tired, walked at a slow pace, and had puffy under-eye bags.

At Arm's Length
Theo knew from the brochure that Hill Academy was quite large. The brochure, however, did not give the school an ounce of justice. The sprawling campus had more acreage than students. Among its many buildings set aside for core classes, Hill Academy sported a baseball, football, and American football field, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, two tennis courts, and a running track. For those less athletically inclined, there were computer labs and music rooms galore, as well as a massive library and an auditorium to rival the Apollo.

Sparrow on a Plank Chapter 3: Finding the Right Help
That afternoon, back on Cyrill, the interviews began. While Sal tried to find a boat that fit their criteria (pretty much the cheapest yet fastest ship she could find) Hajime started researching the target. After all, even the best intelligence forgot something. In this case, the cultural dossier had been forgotten. Which meant having to go into the backshelves of the worst library on Cyrill, hoping to find something despite their complete lack of organization. Hajime had learned early on to hate the backshelves.

Who's the real Monsters?
Eric's POV The day started off normal, had breakfast and kept it down, then listened in on Ed and Shelly. Would've listened in on both of them a bit more if a sudden feeling of dread didn't seep into my bones. It was the same feeling I had when Z was taken to Nurse Ratchet. That Thing is flexing it's power.

Memoir | Black and White Office Party | Part VI of VI
I was scheduled to meet with Mr. Sadoski, a high-profile government official who worked in my bureau at the U.S. Department of Prominence. There was no topic of discussion on the Microsoft Calendar e-invitation on why I was meeting with him. And his scheduler, JoAnn, was not telling me why I was to meet him. I got scared and worried that my unfiltered words may have inadvertently said something that annoyed one of our colleagues. My moment of reckoning was about to happen, and I was terrified!

Memoir | Snowstorm | Part VI of VI
As the Washington, D.C. region braced itself for an impending snowstorm, my employer at the U.S. Department of Prominence remained vigilant, fully aware of the imminent chaos it would unleash upon the rush hour traffic, inundate the city’s transportation systems with a surge of commuters, and potentially lead to a government shutdown. Thus, my journey back home became an arduous odyssey, fraught with challenges at every turn.
