She knew that her mother called the bench the "Hope Chest" and had kept sentimental items inside. She lifted the top and began to look inside as Rohan counted all the money they had collected so far.

Prologue (The Keeper’s Secret) In a dimly lit library hidden beneath the bustling streets of a nameless city, an old man named Mr. Mufid sat surrounded by countless keys. I'm sure of it. Until then you and the camera are my audience. It feels good to be the watched for once instead of the watcher. Finally, for everyone to shut up long enough for me to tell my story. Then, in the heat of summer when the tourists and the buzzards come, when Mrs. Developer and Madame Liliana come back from their real homes in Santa Fe and you and I are burning in hell; when the rot and stink get too much to hide… that’s when this confession will matter. Before It Ends. Top Story - January 2025. Content Warning.
When we are children everything seems to have a conspiracy or scary story around it. We make up stories of the things that go bump in the night. We have such a naïve side that we often believe the stories we tell, exaggerating them more each time they are shared with our friends. Sometimes we make up stories based on bits and pieces that we hear the adults around us talking about, and other times we take actions based on those bits and pieces, not realizing what a mistake that can be.
