Looking Out
Inspired By The Cover Of Roxy Music's "Avalon"

He looks out over the clouds to the islands in the distance, where he believes his home is. His bird of prey is on his arm observing the view with him.
The watch and wait.
He has not removed his helmet; he is a man of war and must always be ready, but he does not know what for.
He once had orders, but they have been lost in the fogs of time, and now he waits. His life is now waiting and hoping for an answer.
Looking through the clouds, he does not know how he came to be here.
Is he in heaven? This certainly is no Hell, but there is only he and his bird here, and he knows he cannot leave his position. Was that an order he once received?
Although he waits, he realises he does not eat or drink, feel hunger or thirst, but he cannot leave his position.
Is this duty or purgatory? He does not know.
One day, his bird of prey may fly away, but it has stayed with him.
Is he a soldier or just a man? Is he still on Earth or somewhere else?
It is certainly peaceful here.
So he watches and waits with his bird of prey for whatever comes next ....

This was so intriguing. My eyes were glued to every word of this piece! β¨π
At least he's not having to roll a stone constantly up a hill.
That picture stands out, it immediately brought me back to my youth. And you wrote such a interesting story to go with it.
There's quite a bit to think about here. Why are we where we are? We are all that soldier.
