Google recently launched “AI Mode” and it's about to change search. Again.
Unlike AI Overviews, AI mode works across EVERY query type.
You can chat with it like ChatGPT, ask follow-ups, and it pushes users to websites for deeper information.
So, what’s really going on?
This is Google’s counterattack against ChatGPT taking search market share.
And for SEOs, this means a chance for another (potentially lucrative) traffic source.
NP Digital ran a study: Between September 2024 and February 2025, referral traffic from generative AI rose by 123%, and I can only see this number going up in future.
Right now, AI Mode is only available to Google One AI Premium subscribers, but expect a wider rollout soon.
Smart SEOs are already preparing content strategies to capitalize on this.
