My Music
Good Lovin’ by the Young Rascals One of my favorite childhood memories is driving around with my Dad on Saturday mornings as he did his errands. My brother and I bouncing around in his old pickup truck. He used to play the big chill soundtrack so all of those songs remind me of spending time with my dad and brother as a kid.

Bittersweet Symphony
If you were to ask me when music became an essential part of my life, I don't think I would be able to pinpoint the exact moment. Music has always been a part of me, entwined in the strands of my DNA like symphonies wrapped in a double helix, notes encoded in my biochemistry.

Musical Memories
Track 1: The Letter – From the Original Cast of Billy Elliot I remember being in choir in high school and having the opportunity to get tickets to the theater during the holiday season. Whoever signed up would go to the play house and sing in the lobby nestled between a piano and a huge Christmas tree, that couldn’t have been any shorter than 12 feet tall. We sang some carols and some hymns about the birth of Jesus. As the show was about to begin, we were then escorted to the second row in the theater and we sat down to watched the show. I’ll always remember my first time seeing Billy Elliot. After seeing that show I added the soundtrack to my “musicals” playlist and would revisit it daily until it only became every once in a while.

My Life's Playlist
Music has been something I have looked to for a spectrum of emotions. I presume many other people in this world do the same as me. I listen to quite a few genres, but there are songs in particular that I appreciate from genres I do not usually listen to. For the purpose of this story and challenge, I will be focusing on songs that speak to me on a very personal level.

Mix Tape
Treble Charger, "Friend Of Mine" and the beginning of music I'm thirteen, sitting cross legged on the worn blue carpet of my bedroom floor. "Bye-Bye-Bye" blasts from my CD player boombox. I sing along while I draw in my sketchbook. The heel of my palm drags across the linen paper as the graphite marks a path behind it. The air is hot. I wipe a small bead of sweat off my forehead. The rhythmic whirling of the box fan reverberates in the window frame. With no warning my bedroom door swings open, jarring me from my peaceful state. I gasp in surprise but then sigh in relief as I realize the perpetrator standing in my door is only my brother.

A Story in Song
Life is unpredictable sometimes. It can be messy. It can be chaotic, and it doesn’t always fit into a neat little box. Like life itself, my taste in music is all over the map. Everything from tc theme songs to alternative rock, pop to Broadway will make an appearance on this list.
