Every Month Has A Mood
Do the first three months of the year feel like one week to everyone or is that just me? I always feel like January, February, March are actually just New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, and then oops, we're almost to Summer. This year felt no different, except that I was prepared for it to go by in a blink of an eye... and so was my Spotify. 2023 Music Journey Into Outer Space
A Brief Bit About My Music History I grew up listening to 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s music. My dad has been a major influence on my music tastes, having introduced me in my childhood to the wonderful and wacky sounds of new wave and the iconic 70’s and 80’s soft rock and pop songs. I didn’t know who exactly I was listening to back then, but as I grew up, I always remembered them and liked that kind of music. Growing up in the 90’s and early 2000’s, I was naturally exposed to the music coming out at that time. I distinctly remember listening to Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, and NSYNC on CDs. Interestingly, I never fully took to the music of my own era. I loved the sound of the 80’s. When I was a teenager, I started really paying attention to who and what specifically I was listening to as a kid. Hall & Oates, Journey, Huey Lewis and the News, Chicago, Barry Manilow, Genesis, REO Speedwagon, Simply Red, A Flock of Seagulls, Tears for Fears, Cyndi Lauper, Spandau Ballet, Talking Heads, Styx, Air Supply, and an endless list of so so so many more. I did have some other distinctly different music periods in my life but, from my childhood to 2022, the main music I listened to and preferred was from the decades before my birth.

2024, a year in retrospect
2024 was just another year. The older I get, the more things just blend. I hoped this year would be different and to get some traction into better success. Yet, trying and failing at the goals I wanted to score has been a considerable disappointment. I wanted to be better at a more suitable job and get more writing done. Yet last January, I was glad about coming out of so much stress. My job is stressful, but I got to the point where I just do not care anymore. So, it has become very frustrating to get through the year. Each month was the same as the last. I wish it was a more productive year. I learned a lot and had more time to write with less overtime. It has been a long one, and the hope of next year will be better.

SHUFFLE ALL
It’s the end of November, I’m drinking cold brew, and starting this out on my phone. My laptop died a few days ago, so I’m resorting to this alternative method. Hopefully it’s just an issue with the power cable, and not the laptop itself (I’ll know in a few days when the replacement cord arrives). Otherwise, I’ve more than likely lost the drawing I was working on. Downside of digital art. But I have my notebooks, sketchbook, and phone, so I can still work on some things and try not to think about how fast this week off of work went by. Part of me is dreading going back on Monday. But I told myself I wasn’t going to think about that. It’s the end of November and I’m in a coffee shop listening to Fu Manchu and trying to stay inspired.

We all seem to take a seat at the end of the year like we are all waiting in the dark theater for some allusive closure on the ‘what was’, followed by a few hope-filled previews into the ‘what will be’. This end of year review for me has always seemed to start with the ‘if onlys’ remembering certain regrets. What did I do wrong? What could I have done better? What did I learn for this challenge or that struggle?
