Juli Patchouli’s Last Miserabilist Mish-Mash Mixtape of 2024
My Friend Juli Creates Brilliant Playlists. This Is Last One Of 2024 (Probably)

Introduction
My friend Juli is a music lover, DJ, Poet, Writer, Performer, Snake Owner, and Cat Lover and publishes playlists on Facebook.
These twenty songs are all her choices, I have not heard any of them though I know a few of the bands so I will comment as I put this playlist together.
YouTube does not indicate where the videos are licensed to play so I try and choose the artist's or record label's channels in the hope they will be globally available.
A few of these are Bandcamp rather than YouTube links so you may have to sign up, but it is free and is good for artists. The Bandcamp links have the play button in the bottom left of the image whereas the YouTube ones are centre.
Take a listen and leave comments, I'd love to hear what you think.
Thanks for this Juli.
This was the last one:
Maybe The Last Miserabilist Mish-Mash Mixtape of 2024!
LBWL - "Ripperotism" From "Crossed Parallels"
From the first note/chord this sounds like doom. Very industrial, but smoothly done.
She Past Away - Sanri (Hallucination)
Makes me think of a New Order song (not one in particular, just the way it moves) that has been marinated in dark, viscous oil.
Peter Murphy - "A Strange Kind of Love" from "Wild Birds"
A familiar name if not a familiar tune to me, but the Bauhaus singer does not disappoint with this gothic sliver.
Traitrs - "Mouth Poisons" from "Horses In The Abattoir"
Thanks to Juli I am now familiar with Traitrs and love their metal warehouse sound.
Hot Guts - "Kite & Shadow" from "Wilds"
This sounds like an electrogoth nursery rhyme, slightly disconcerting but still rather excellent.
Damien Saez - "Je Suis le Christ" from "Varsovie, L'Alhambra, Paris"
Showing my ignorance and lack of education here, I can only make out a few sentences of this song, which sounds almost anti-Jacques Brel but this Jacques Brel like sentiments and ideas.
Peter Perrett - "Love Comes on Silent Feet" from "Humanworld"
I don't think I've heard any of Peter's solo work but I do love The Only Ones and this has tempted me to buy the album. I also love the concept of the title.
Holygram - "Still There"
WARNING: This video may potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised
Relentless Goth is the Joy Division / Cure / New Order universe.
Oathbreaker - "Ease Me (Chelsea Wolfe Remix)"
This is quite scary and ponderous. I don't know how much the remix adds or subtracts but I will be checking out more from the band and remixer.
Ritual Howls - "I Can Hear Your Tears" from "Rendered Armor"
A band I know from Juli's previous playlists and this another relentless sonic attack.
Modern English - "A Viable Commercial" from "Mesh and Lace"
I'd always assumed Modern English to be bland AOR, but this is definitely not that. Unexpectedly aggressive and I think the band require a reappraisal from me.
Sonic Jesus - "Funeral Party" from "Grace"
Similar in sound and mood to the Modern English song and, again, rather good.
Soft Kill - "Lost" from "Choke"
The guitar sound reminds me of The Cult and the video is quite eerie. Another impressive slice of sound.
The Lost Rivers - "Fall (Teenage Sin Taste Remix)"
Described on Youtube as German Shoegaze Noise, that should give you some idea of what to expect.
Lille Roger - "Touch Me" from "Undead Recorded 1985-86"
This sounds like a dalek singing over some enhanced black noise static. It will certainly clear a party, but is rather excellent.
Ancien Régime - "When They Fall" from "The Position"
This starts as almost space rock with an excellent sysnthesiser lead befor the vocals slow it down, and interesting fast / slow time sequence in the song.
Fabienne Delsol - "I'm Gonna Haunt You" from "No Time for Sorrows"
This makes me think of Nancy Sinatra / Lee Hazelw0od if they were in The Cramps. Great stuff.
The Poems - "Achieving Unity" (featuring Rose McDowall)
Before Strawberry Switchblade, Rose McDowall was in an experimental punk band called The Poems. They released a track on a various artists EP (Posters On The Wall on the Spectacular Commodity EP, 1979), a self-issued cassette in 1980, and then in 1981 a single, Achieving Unity (Polka Records, DOT1).
Eagulls - "Nerve Endings"
I think the band sound like Echo and the Bunnymen on a completely different tangent. I have their first album, which I think is brilliant.
This video features a rotting pig's brain for some reason, but this is the one to close this playlist.
Thank you for reading and for listening.

Love the dalek reference 😅 I think I had only heard of one of these, what a fun playlist
I shall have a listen to some of these. Intriguing!
