I was going to start a series about songs that have numbers in the title. However, as much as there are plenty of songs with one in the title I am not so sure about the other songs and other numbers. So let me begin with one and see how things progress.
“One” is a song that was written by American singer and songwriter Harry Nilsson. It is featured on his 1968 album Aerial Ballet. The song is best known for its opening line “One is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do”. The song became better known when American rock band Three Dog Night did their cover version. The song became popular and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band released “One” as the second single from their eponymous first album with Chuck Negron doing lead vocal. This became their first of seven gold records over the next five years.
“One Way or Another” is a song that was recorded by the American new wave band Blondie. It is featured on their 1978 album Parallel Lines. The song charted on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box charts. Rolling Stone magazine ranked the song 298 on their list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
“This One” is a song that was written and recorded by English singer and songwriter Paul McCartney. It is on his 1989 album Flowers in the Dirt. The song charted on the UK Singles chart. I found this song enjoyable for both its music and lyrics. Even though it did not find great popularity the song is worth listening to.
“One Moment in Time” is a sentimental ballad that was recorded by American singer Whitney Houston. It was written by Albert Hammond and John Bettis. The song was released as the first single from the compilation album 1988 Summer Olympics Album. The song rose to number one on the UK Singles and Billboard Adult Hot Contemporary charts.
“Another One Bites the Dust” is a song that was recorded by the British rock band Queen. It was written by the band’s bassist John Deacon. The song was featured on their 1980 album The Game. The song became a worldwide hit and charted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song won the American Music Award for Favorite Rock Single and got the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The song was also often featured at sports events.
“Wild One” is a song that was recorded by American singer and actor Bobby Rydell. It was written by Dave Appell, Kal Mann, and Bernie Lowe. The song became a hit for Rydell and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“Dedicated to the One I Love” is a song that was written by Lowman Pauling and Ralph Bass. It was originally recorded by the American rhythm and blues vocal group “5” Royales. Their version was re-released in 1961 and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Among the popular cover versions was one by the American girl group The Shirelles and their version charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B Sides charts. It is featured in their 1961 album Tonight’s the Night.
“Still the One” is a song that was written by Johanna Hall and John Hall. It was recorded by the American soft rock group Orleans. The song is featured on their 1976 album Waking and Dreaming and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Country singer Bill Anderson recorded a successful cover version which charted on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1977.
