Usually, we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter F. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs. At the end, you’ll find the links to the songs with titles that begin with the letters A, B, C, D, E, and F.

“(Ghost) Riders In the Sky” is a cowboy-style country western song that was written by American songwriter, film, and TV actor Stan Jones in 1948. One of the most popular recorded versions was in 1980 by the American rock band The Outlaws. It is featured on their album Ghost Riders and became one of the band's most successful songs. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Goodbye” is a song that was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon-McCartney. It was recorded in 1969 by Welsh singer Mary Hopkin. The song charted on the UK Singles chart as well as the music charts in the US. The song was created as a follow-up to Hopkin's first successful single “Those Were the Days” produced by Paul McCartney. The song is on her debut album Postcard.

“Get Off My Cloud” is a song that was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. It was recorded in 1965 by the English rock band The Rolling Stones. The single was meant to follow up the band's successful hit “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction”. The song became a major success and reached number one in the US on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and on the UK Singles chart. It is featured on their album December's Children (And Everybody's).

“Girl” is a song that was recorded by the English rock band The Beatles. It is included in their 1965 album Rubber Soul. The song was written by band member John Lennon and credited to Lennon-McCartney. The song is considered to be one of the most melancholic and complex of the earlier love songs by the band. Years later when Lennon wrote his song “Woman” he said that it could be like a grown-up version of “Girl”.

“Gloria” is a love song from 1979 that was written and composed in Italian by Umberto Tozzi and Giancarlo Bigazzi. It was translated to English by Jonathan King. American singer Laura Branigan recorded a very successful cover version of the song in 1982. It charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. It became her signature song.

“Going Back to Gloria” is a song that was recorded by American singer and songwriter Roy Orbison. It is featured on his 1966 album The Classic Roy Orbison which also included the single “Twinkle Toes” which was Orbison's last US Top 40 single during his lifetime.

“Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” is a ballad that was written by English singer and songwriter Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin. It was recorded by John in 1973 and is on his album of the same name. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100, Easy Listening, and UK Singles charts. The road refers to the one in the film and book series “The Wizard of OZ” by L. Frank Baum. It is at number 390 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and was certified Gold by the RIAA in 1974 and 2x Platinum in 2020.

“Glad All Over” is a song that was written by Dave Clark and Mike Smith. It was recorded by the English rock band The Dave Clark Five in 1964. It is featured on their album of the same name. The song rose to number one on the UK Singles chart and charted in the US on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
