A Wildlife Haven
Grass that changes colour with the seasons and large boulders of rock has always surrounded the areas I have lived in. Late summer and autumn see a burst of colour of pink, purple, yellow and green whereas the winter shows a blanket of white. A beautiful place in Devon called Dartmoor that’s always bustling with a variety of wonderful wildlife. With 400 square miles, it is known as England’s largest and wildest open space. Basically, untouched by human hands the landscape hasn’t been victim to the industrial nature of our species. Rivers, bogs, woodland and grassland stand proud. The bogs are a haven for wildlife. Among enormous clumps of purple moor grass the white heads of cotton wave in the wind whilst the carnivorous sundews and butterwort make a living of preying on bog insects unlucky enough to fall into their treacherous grasp. Butterflies floating in the air bringing dream-like scenes to life. Dartmoor holds memories and magic for many. From the torrent streams and wooded slopes to the open moor, this landscape is a fantastic place to explore and discover new species. Every moment I have spent up there I’ll always hold very dear to my heart. With the breath-taking view and perfect serenity about the environment you’d find it very difficult to be in a foul mood whilst you are smelling the fresh, purified air.

Hair Comes Trouble
I’ve always been obsessed with changing my hair. I'm never happy with it for long. I’ve always felt my hair has been what helps define me. I look at it as a reflection of my personality. I’ve changed colours numerous times and I’m patiently waiting for the opportunity to go to the salon for the first time to have it properly coloured to red and pink. I’ve never really been bothered about the length of my hair though. When I was growing up, I had the bowl cut bob and all throughout my teen years, I was constantly changing it from long to shoulder length. I had always had my mum’s friend, who was a mobile hairdresser, come to the house and cut my hair the correct way. That was until one day I decided to act on an impulsive decision to try and cut my hair myself.

Super Mum
I’ve always admired single mums. Having to take on both parental roles with your child is something I find very commendable. I always had some sort of a father figure in my life. Whether it was my real dad or a step-dad, I’ve always had a “dad.” However, every parental figure in my life has never been good at taking responsibility, including my mother. For advice on subjects' people would normally go to their parents for I had to reach out to others. My best friend. I’ve always relied heavily on her for things my parents really should have taken a bigger role and interest in. From the boys I was seeing to the dark days of my life, she has always been there. I knew that no matter what I was going through, I never had to do it alone. So, when she fell pregnant and had a child of her own at the age of 18, I knew she was going to be amazing and do anything and everything to give her little girl a life she deserves.

A Typical Cliché
Music saved my life. I bet you read that, rolled your eyes and thought “what a cliché” but it is true. Growing up, I didn’t have the best home life and through my teenage years I ended up getting into drugs and drinking to try to cope with it. The only constant my life had with a sense of normality was music. They say that your life reflects in the music you listen to and I’m living proof of that. Every song I listened to always spoke to me in ways I couldn’t understand. With Billie Eilish becoming popular in recent years, I’d like to talk about the “sad girl” music before her that will always be iconic.

Skating Into The Past
When I was a little girl, there was a big fashion trend among children that gave you an unspoken bond between your peers. You would be rolling around the streets with jealous eyes of onlooking children burning into the back of your head. You had the wind in your hair and would be high fiving the other kids strolling past. These shoes were every kid’s dream in the 2000’s. I’m, of course, talking about Heelys. The craze took over children and eventually every single one of my friends had a pair. We would be wearing them as our school shoes and skating to our lessons. I remember a time we had a race in the school playground to see who was the Heely champion. I didn’t win. Most of my happy childhood memories involved a pair of Heelys.

Sophisticated And Sexy
Being born in the year 2000, I have not got a wide experience with big fashion trends as I would have liked. I’ve seen the rise and fall of the chinos in men's fashion (thank God) and white jeans become a rare thing of the past for women. Nearly halfway into the year 2021, I am already seeing corsets becoming a returning trend in women’s fashion. This may not be in the fashion of the history before but they are coming back with a 21st century twist. Although I’m elated the return of the corset is among us, I’m still waiting patiently for the day Audrey Hepburn style dresses make their return.

The Hilton Humiliation
When I was sixteen, I wanted nothing more than to be a singer. It was my dream and something I still wish to this day. I signed myself up to audition for The Voice UK and was delighted when I was chosen to go up to London and audition. For context, there are a set of evaluations you go through before you go for the official blind auditions which are televised. They are called producer auditions and you have to prepare two songs: One acapella and One with a backing track or instrument. One has to be over 150 BPM (Beats per minute) and one below. I chose The A Team by Ed Sheeran and Pumped-Up Kids by The Foster People. I practised for weeks and was determined to do this for myself. Little did I know, it was going to be the biggest embarrassment of my life.

The Mystery Merlot Man
As I walk into the smoke-filled room, a wave of anxiety overcomes me. I’m finally meeting HIM. Jack. The guy who has been on the other end of the phone whenever I need him. The man who knows everything about me, my deepest darkest secrets. I start to question everything he has ever told me. What if he isn’t who he says he is? What if I’ve been catfished and some old man walks in who I’ve trusted with everything? What if he is who he says he is but he is luring me here to kidnap me? It suddenly dawns on me nobody knows I’m meeting him here tonight and I’m hyper aware of my surroundings. I try my best to push it to the back of my head and make a B-line straight for the bar. I order the strongest thing on the menu. Absinthe. Knocking back the shot my ears are pierced by the group of drunk men fumbling around the stage butchering Sex On Fire by Kings Of Leon. Through all my overthinking, a small smile finds its way across my face.

The Cycle Of Inevitability
As I am coming up on the age of 21, I have been reflecting on my bad habits and trying to understand where they came from. Although I have been working on them since I turned 18, I find it hard to shake them off completely. I’ll be going through the experiences I had with my parents and analysing where my bad habits formed and what could have been done to prevent them.

Living in Britain’s Ocean City, we have many local restaurants which will serve incredibly fresh sea food while offering a stunning view of the sea. We have many brilliant fish and chip shops which is a staple of the British nation however our city is also up with the greats for offering a varied range of many different cuisines.
