How social Media Grooms Consumers
The irony about deciding to enter this challenge is that the last thing I spent money on directly from an ad I saw on Social Media was my Vocal+ membership. Before that it was a package of amazing bath soak packets that are actually worth the ten dollars per bath, which I consider a splurge. They actually hold up to the hype. I have no regrets about dropping the cash for either of these things, but I won't be using one packet three times a week as per the company's recommendation. $120 a month on bathing seems a little excessive.

Can't travel? Consider this!
Does your wanderlust have you climbing the walls? Very few of us have had the freedom to travel over the last year. Road trips are great, but sometimes they just aren't what you're in the mood for. Wrangling people into a car and spending hours driving to some remote location can be fun, but it often involves more hassle and less time to really relax while you take in your surroundings. There is just something magical about getting on a jet plane and leaving your daily ins and outs as far behind as you're willing to travel. For me, that would be out of the country, to an entirely new place, with gorgeous scenery and a rich cultural background .

Unsung War Hero
My ancestor and 8th great grandfather John Jack Jouett, was an unsung hero of the American Revolutionary War. Not many people know his name or what he did to shape the face of American History as we know it. Paul Revere wasn't the only historical figure to ride through the night, warning his countrymen of British invasion. Although, history gives him all the credit. In Virginia in the year 1781, Jack Jouett rode through the backwoods, undetected and undefended, to warn Thomas Jefferson and his men of a planned attack and intended capture of these American government officials earning him the alias, Paul Revere of the South.

Create a Cinematic Vacation
There are few things in life that make my soul as hopeful and happy as romance and travel. The two go hand and hand for me, even if I'm traveling solo. I haven't been on a plane in over a year, which may be the longest stretch of time without leaving my immediate surroundings in my adult life. I haven't been out of America since 2009.

That Doesn't Work For Me
It's five o'clock on Friday night. For the last five hours you've been fantasizing about kicking your feet up with your favorite beverage, curling up on your couch, and diving into that book you just can't put down. It has been a LONG week, and you just want to get home, slip into your comfy clothes and shut the world out. You are minutes away from taking this fantasy one step closer to reality, when your coworker pokes their head around the corner and asks if you can stay late to help them finish THEIR work. You like being a team player, but this person has a habit of taking the credit for work they conned other people into doing for them. You've helped them before, because that's what you do. It's easier on everyone else if you pick up the slack and don't complain about it. Maybe this exact scenario doesn't fit you, but if you're anything like me, you can relate.

The Art of Instant Gratification
Are you bored yet? Perhaps you live in a state that still has a lot of restrictions in place. It's possible that you live in a place where the weather is preventing you from doing anything outside. Maybe you live alone and haven't had the opportunity to get together with friends or loved ones in a while. Are you one of the millions around the world experiencing "pandemic fatigue"? You could be one of the countless people struggling with this new way of life that has put a tailspin on most of our daily routines. Whatever the case may be, you could probably use a little boost in your day. Who doesn't? Even if you're having a great day, whats the harm possibly making it even better.

Prohibition in America
Why in the world would anyone want to ban alcohol? Well, a lot of people did around the start of the 20th century. So much so that The Prohibition act was ratified in 1919, and enacted into law by 1920 under the 18th amendment to the American constitution. For the next 12 years, the manufacturing, sale and transportation of alcohol was outlawed. You may already know a little bit about prohibition, but there are some interesting facts that might surprise you.

Spruce up for Spring
Here you are emerging from an entire year of limitations and life changes. There isn't one person one this earth who hasn't been effected by the Covid pandemic. You aren't alone. Our life was turned upside down, and now we are gradually making our way back to a new normal...whatever that may be. Things will never be exactly as they were, and I have come up with a fun strategy to start getting your life back on some sort of track. I love the word spring almost as much as I love the season. Let me show you how the very word itself let me embrace a new concept of "spring cleaning" to reorganize my life.

The Nook
On a bright spring morning as colorful and delicious as ripening grapes on a vine, Fiona was happily strolling to her favorite place in Culver City. Listening to a jazzy number by Louis Armstrong as she bopped along, Fiona was lost in a world of her own thoughts as she imagined what her first day as the new owner of The Nook would feel like. She had known the place well as a patron, but she remembered her conversation with Maggie, one of the previous owners, about the secrets there that lay hidden waiting to be discovered. Fiona was boiling over with the anticipation of possibility and prosperity.

ADHD Demystified
Everyone seems to think they know all about ADHD and its symptoms. I'll be out somewhere and over hear people say things to their friends like, "I'm so ADD right now!", because they'll be on their phone while also working on their computer, and they cant decide which device to devote their attention to. I've also talked to many people who don't believe ADHD is a legitimate issue or that it was created by big pharma just to sell drugs. What's worse are the numerous stereotypes and stigmas that are associated with having ADHD. When people hear that I am ADHD, cue the eye rolls and endless suggestions of dietary changes, more exercise, less screen time, it's a conspiracy, or worse, "it's all in your head", comments.

A Disappointed Goddess
The stars have guided humanity across the globe from the beginning of recorded history. It isn't surprising that astrology has been used to help guide people in their personal lives for thousands of years. Humanity has a long history of striving to explain why things are the way they are by any means possible. At the dawn of it's creation, I'm sure astrology seemed to make as much logical sense as the theory of relativity or gravity does today.

The Maiden Voyage
In the waning days of lazy summer afternoons and warm nights abuzz with the dwindling lights of fireflies, Amber could often be found beneath the fragrant Magnolia tree in her back yard. She would sprawl out on a giant blanket and read for hours and watch the clouds go by while listening to the soft, summer breeze and the symphony of rustling leaves that would soon be changing and falling to the ground. She was a dreamer and an eternal optimist, which people found to be a bit ridiculous. Amber didn't care. She might be a little silly for spending so much time with her head in the clouds, but it was just her nature and it couldn't be helped. From a young age, Amber knew she was different than all the other girls her age, but it didn't bother her in the slightest.
