Autism is NOT Caused by Vaccines or Tylenol
My name is Anne Marie, and I taught high school English in special education and regular ed classes for nine years. During that time, I taught many students on the spectrum, each of whom I loved so dearly for being exactly who they were. I quit teaching during COVID because I could not manage the extra stress it was causing me, which ultimately led to my own late diagnosis of ADHD and autism. I struggled my whole life, not realizing that the struggles I was facing weren’t the “norm” and that I was overworking myself to burnout in a lot of areas in my life. That being said, I also know ADHD and autism to be biological and heritable traits, unique aspects of our personalities and things that make us unique human beings with beautiful visions and ways of seeing the world. That being said, I can’t think that vaccines or Tylenol are the source of something so beautiful if while it has its own unique struggles and drawbacks, it is also a beautiful gift and welcomed condition that only shows how unique human beings on this Earth are, which absolutely should be celebrated, not looked on as a terrible thing.

Is The World Ending? Maybe So…
I decided today I wanted to take some time to talk about my experience as an American citizen in the United States of America right now. I feel confused. The world that I thought I knew seems to have been shattered by the shocking realities of what is truly occurring, and it almost feels like I’m living through the plot of a movie now, not real life.

Scattered Thoughts of a 36 Year Old Woman
I’ve always been a woman with so much love to give, and so much love in my heart, I’ve just never known where to direct it. People don’t notice someone like me in the grand scheme of things, but maybe I think if I can at least touch one person’s heart, the world could be better. If only it were that easy.

Constants are Changing: A Kaleidoscope of Chaos and Order
Constants Are Changing: A Kaleidoscope of Chaos and Order This artwork, titled "Constants Are Changing," is a digital mixed-media piece that explores the paradoxical relationship between stability and flux. As an artist, I am fascinated by how we find a sense of center in a world defined by constant motion and transformation. This piece uses the ancient symbol of the mandala, a representation of cosmic and psychic order, and places it within a dynamic, chaotic, and overtly modern context. It's a visual metaphor for the human experience—a search for inner peace while being pulled in countless directions by the forces of change. The work invites viewers to find their own point of stillness amidst the vibrant turmoil.

Time Shift: The Mandala of the Modern Mind
Time Shift: The Mandala of the Modern Mind This artwork, titled "Time Shift," is a digital mixed-media piece that explores the fragmented and multi-layered nature of contemporary consciousness. As an artist, I am deeply intrigued by the ways we perceive and experience time in a world defined by a constant flow of information and a blend of digital and physical realities. This piece is a visual representation of that experience—a mosaic of traditional spirituality and modern technology, suggesting that even in the midst of digital chaos, there is a fundamental human search for order and meaning.

The Hermit: A Journey of Inner Light
The Hermit: A Journey of Inner Light This artwork, titled "The Hermit," is a modern reimagining of a classic archetype, a visual meditation on the themes of introspection, solitude, and spiritual enlightenment. As an artist, I've always been drawn to the profound wisdom embedded in timeless symbols, and the figure of the Hermit from the Tarot deck offers a powerful lens through which to explore the contemporary search for meaning. This piece transcends its traditional source material, portraying the Hermit not as a solitary recluse in a cave, but as a luminous figure navigating a complex, vibrant, and sometimes chaotic inner landscape. The work invites viewers to consider the importance of stepping away from the noise of the world to find their own inner light.

Creation: The Weaving of Time and Legacy
Creation: The Weaving of Time and Legacy This work of art, titled "Creation," is a visual exploration of humanity’s relationship with time, legacy, and the perpetual cycle of life. As an artist, I am fascinated by the unseen forces that shape our existence and the profound beauty in the passage of moments. This piece, rendered in a style that merges classical symbolism with vibrant, modern color, is a meditation on the human journey—from the grandeur of cosmic time to the intimacy of a single family. It seeks to answer a fundamental question: What does it mean to create, and what is the legacy we leave behind?

A New Narrative: Reclaiming Our Story
A New Narrative: Reclaiming Our Story As an artist, my work is often a journey of self-discovery and a reflection of the human experience. The piece "Our Story" is a deeply personal exploration of a difficult transition—moving from a state of individual brokenness to one of shared strength and healing. This mixed-media collage is a visual narrative, a testament to the power of connection and the beauty that can emerge from mended hearts. It's a departure from the solitary "I" and an embrace of the communal "we," a shift from a story of personal struggle to a story of collective resilience.

“Les pêcheurs de perles”
“Les pêcheurs de perles: A Symphony of Love and Loss" In my work, "Les pêcheurs de perles," I’ve created a mixed-media piece that explores the themes of love, loss, and the profound connection between two souls. The title, which translates to "The Pearl Fishers," is a direct reference to the opera by Georges Bizet. The central narrative of the opera—a deep friendship challenged by love and sacrifice—serves as the emotional anchor for this piece. The painting is a dynamic collage of color, text, and unconventional materials. The central space is dominated by text blocks that quote a pivotal moment from the opera, a conversation between two friends, Nadir and Zurga, who are fishermen. The fragments, "YOUR HEART UNDERSTOOD MINE," are repeated and broken up across the canvas, reflecting the fragmented nature of memory and the way we cling to certain phrases or moments from a powerful relationship. The text, rendered in bold red and white, stands out against a backdrop of deep blues, purples, and blacks, a visual representation of the tumult of the sea and the emotional depths of the human heart. The use of ripped paper from old books or manuscripts adds a layer of history and scholarship, suggesting that the emotions explored here are timeless and universal, a part of a larger human narrative.

“Kid Anne”
Kid Anne: A Visual Monologue on Trauma and Identity" In this work, titled "Kid Anne," I sought to create a deeply personal and emotionally charged portrait that explores the complexities of trauma, innocence, and the lasting impact of painful experiences on one's identity. The central image is a young girl with vibrant auburn hair and a somber expression, her face a canvas of sorrow. Her tear-streaked face and downcast gaze immediately draw the viewer into her world of profound pain. The use of a realistic, almost illustrative style for the girl's face and hair contrasts sharply with the chaotic, abstract background, highlighting her as a vulnerable figure against a tumultuous world. The large headphones she wears are a crucial element, not just an accessory but a symbol of her attempt to block out the overwhelming noise of the world and the internal chaos she is experiencing. They are her only shield, her only escape. The title, "Kid Anne," is a deliberate choice. It removes the anonymity of the subject, making the pain feel incredibly real and personal, as if we are looking at a specific, named individual, not just a generalized concept of suffering. The painting is a visual monologue, a silent scream that invites the viewer to listen with their eyes.
