Transparency's Opacity
I recite the speech again. My lips shape the words, but I only say them in my head, rushing through them until they all overlap and curl around one another in a jumbled contortionist act. Class will begin soon, and I’m first up on the list to present my economics project. Damn that class lottery that predetermined our order.

I'm taking myself less seriously. Is it working?
Ever since joining Vocal, I’ve had this notion in my head that in order for me to publish a story, it has to be the best, most original, most well-written idea I have ever had. I was under the impression that people only wanted to read stories that were going to invoke the deepest emotions or reactions, inspire and move them in ways they have never been inspired or moved before.

My Farewell Letter to 2022
This year honestly started out less than phenomenal for me. Like, way less than phenomenal. I tested positive for Covid-19 on Christmas of 2021, and had to subsequently cancel the surprise birthday trip to North Carolina I had planned for my boyfriend’s New Year’s Eve birthday. No trip, no seeing my boyfriend on his birthday, and no New Year’s kiss. Sufficient to say, I wasn’t feeling all to excited about what 2022 had in store.
