Feline Fortunes

For the Full Moon Challenge

Traipse and trek up Earth’s first timeless temples,

All the while I worry of mean, smiling pimples.

*

Surely, they cower at these growing skin mountains,

More looming and steep than the ones that surround us.

*

I stay the course, though my vision obstructed,

By white-headed skyscrapers my pores have constructed.

*

Just follow the cat, ears scream at me silent,

Her tortoiseshell tail keeps me on track behind it.

*

Feline fortune-teller knows the fastest way up

To the Fountain of Youth, though her moves are abrupt.

*

Alone the vigilant and agile will triumph to success,

And to their new nine lives, acquiesce.

*

Snow flurries’ freeze cause my facial volcanoes to snivel,

I dream that the algid altitude induces their shrivel.

*

Mayhap that ever juvenile spring grant me not the nine lives of the cat,

But the assurance that nary one more carbuncle lay plunder to my cheek fat.

*

Reached the top in record time,

Doltish explorers, youth’s fountain is but a mere climb.

*

Cat spirals back, her pupils a fine line and burning

To see which of us chasers have bested her tourney

*

Iridescent elixir from Earth’s first fountain streams endless,

Cat promenades forward on padded paws with reverence.

*

A tilt down of the chin and a gentle lap,

And the cat has tasted Earth’s immortal sap.

*

She casts her portal eyes back yet again,

And lands them on me with a Cheshire grin.

*

She dissolves the distance betwixt us in the blink of an eye,

The expression dressed upon her face is one rather wry.

*

Sandpaper tongue rubs rough over mangled skin and good fortune grants,

Until those grotesque pustules shrink into inconsequential irrelevance.

*

Elation swells within, for I’ve won the prize and the race,

As I awake to my hungry cat licking my face.
