Movie Review: 'The Keeper' Arrives at the Exact Wrong Time
Now is not the time for the movie The Keeper. A movie highlighting a story of reconciliation between victims of the Nazis and a Nazi soldier has no place in a world where Nazi propaganda and fascism is once again on the rise. Regardless of the good intentions at the heart of the movie and at the heart of the filmmakers, we need not demonstrate compassion or acceptance for people who fight on the side of Nazi ideology no matter how much they claim that they did so against their will.

Documentary Review: 'Ursula Von Rydingsvard: Into Her Own'
As a younger man I hated the art world. I hated the pretension, the excess, the ludicrous amounts of money paid for creations that made no logical sense to my immature mind. I still have some issues with the money spent on art in a country where we still have people living hand to mouth. That said, I have come around somewhat on the art world in general. The market for art is about people with money, the art is about the artist.

Movie Review: 'The Dark Divide'
David Cross is not the first name that comes to mind when looking for an actor to explore a character of depth and grave sadness. Best known for his caustic stand up comedy, the absurdist skits of Mr Show and the boundless silliness of Tobias on Arrested Development, it's rare when David Cross is seen in anything requiring an earnest expression of any sort.

Movie Review: 'Shortcut'
Shortcut is short and that's the best thing about this teen-centric horror movie. That's not to say that Shortcut is unwatchably bad, it's not. Shortcut is perfectly serviceable as a creature feature. If you like goofy monsters and lots of dark corners in which to shine torches and flashlights, Shortcut has you covered. If you are looking for genuine scares, you will want to look elsewhere.

Movie Review: 'The Secret Society of Second Born Royals'
Disney's latest original, The Secret Society of Second Born Royals made me nostalgic for the days of the Famous Jett Jackson or Cadet Kelly. At least those movies were made with an awareness that they were low budget filler intended only for the undiscerning minds of grade schoolers. The makers of The Secret Society of Second Born Royals have made something that pretends towards Harry Potter with super heroes and ends up an abyss of mediocre predictability.

Movie Review: 'American Pie: Girls' Rules' Isn't as Bad As You Think
It may seem impossible given how bastardized the American Pie franchise has been since it became a staple of the direct to on demand services world but, the latest sequel, isn't terrible. American Pie: Girls' Rules isn't going to be well remembered, or well reviewed by most critics, and it is far from being worth paying to see in a theater. But, it has just enough good humor from a terrific cast to be passably entertaining.

Movie Review: Carrie Coon and Jude Law Shine in 'The Nest'
I could watch Carrie Coon grind Jude Law’s out sized ego to dust for days and days and days. That’s not a commentary on them as human beings, I don’t know them personally. But, from watching their sensational and spiky back and forth in the exceptional new drama The Nest, I find that Coon taking Law’s metaphoric manhood into her hands and twisting for all she’s worth to be my new happy place. These two actors make for a remarkable on screen pair.

Movie Review: 'Teenage Badass' Rocks Just Enough
Teenage Badass is an affable, good natured coming of age story about a teenage drummer named Brad (Mcabe Gregg) who gets a big break when he’s offered the chance to audition for a popular local band in his little corner of Arizona. Though only 19, Brad is an impressive talent but it may have been as much timing and luck that lands Brad the gig. The band’s lead singer, Kirk (Evan Ultra) is a deeply troubled addict but also kind of music genius, the music is really good even as his behavior is nearly unbearable.

Movie Review: 'H is for Happiness' is Just Wonderful
The family comedy H is for Happiness is like a lightning bolt of joy directly to your soul. I’m being hyperbolic but I can’t help myself, I adore this brilliant little Aussie family flick. So joyous is H is for Happiness that it is the rare movie that can play Katrina & the Waves classic new wave hit, Walking on Sunshine, over the end credits and truly have the song encapsulate the joy this movie contains.
