Movie Review: 'The Trial of the Chicago 7'
The Trial of the Chicago 7 has been in development for 12 years. Steven Speilberg originated the idea and recruited writer Aaron Sorkin to write a screenplay that would capture the chaos, turmoil and excitement behind one of the many so-called ‘Trial of the Century.’ In 1968 a group of Left Wing Activists were put on trial, accused of deliberately starting riots at the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago. The subsequent trial was a tyrannical farce that could be adapted into a dozen different movies. That Sorkin has distilled the trial to the most essential, and essentially entertaining elements makes the achievement of The Trial of the Chicago 7 so impressive.

Aaron Sorkin's new movie The Trial of the Chicago 7 premieres on Netflix on Friday, October 16th. Recently Aaron Sorkin spoke to members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association about the The Trial of the Chicago 7 and in that interview I had the chance to ask Aaron Sorkin about the challenges of casting the movie which is led by Sacha Baron Cohen as Abbie Hoffman Jeremy Strong as Jerry Rubin and Eddie Redmayne as Tom Hayden, left wing, ant-war activists, who were put on trial following the 1968 Chicago Democratic National Convention which went down in infamy as massive riots roiled the streets of Chicago before Hubert Humphrey was chosen as the next Democratic nominee for president to face off against Richard Nixon.

Former NFL Linebacker Sam Acho played for the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Buffalo Bills and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his more than 8 seasons in the NFL. In his time in the NFL Sam struggled with his emotions and with trying to hide his insecurities and anxiety and it caused strife in the locker room and in his personal life. It wasn’t until a friend caused Sam to begin to open up and reveal himself that Sam’s life began to get better and his outlook on the world began to change in an incredibly positive way.

Movie Review: 'Making Time' is an Indie Time Travel Gem
Under normal circumstances I try to avoid it when a filmmaker asks me to watch their movie. Generally speaking, this is a potential disaster. What if I hate the movie? What if the movie is complete garbage? How am I supposed to write an honest, objective, critical essay about something directly to someone? Now, I have written, and will again in the future, write negative reviews, it’s part of the job of a critic, sometimes a work isn’t any good and I am paid to express that to the world.

Celebrity Interview: Nev Shulman Talks Dancing with Stars 'Controversy' and Catfish Legacy
Catfish creator and host Nev Shulman has long harbored a secret desire to be on Dancing with the Stars. Shulman, in this very interview, talks about how the shooting schedule of Catfish was what kept him from being able to take on Dancing with the Stars in the past. Now that the pandemic has forced Nev to host Catfish from home and go on without its usual globetrotting travel schedule, suddenly, Nev found himself with the time and opportunity to be part of Dancing with the Stars and have the experience he secretly desired. Movie Review: Ms White Light is a Lovely Surprise
Lex (Roberta Collindrez) has a rather mysterious gift. Her job has her sit at the bedside of a person who is dying and give them comfort. Despite her baggy brown suit, unkempt hair, and generally odd manner, Lex has a way of reaching out to those who are dying in ways that members of the family or the medical profession cannot. Lex’s gift is seemingly supernatural and she genuinely helps people accept death in a way that brings great comfort to those who let go.

Movie Review: 'Possessor' is Visually Dynamic, Creepy and Violent
Possessor has me vexed. This sci-fi horror movie from the son of legendary director David Cronenberg, Brandon Cronenberg, is visually dynamic and compelling in a disturbing fashion. But, what is the movie about? I am not sure I know what Brandon Cronenberg is intending to say with this movie that carries themes about identity, gender, violence and psychopathy. It’s a film packed with ideas but none of those ideas resonates as much as I believe they should.

Cagefighter: Worlds Collide stars Alex ‘Mean’ Montagnani as Reiss Gibbons, the Light Heavyweight Champion of the World in Legends MMA, the film approximation of UFC. Gina Gershon co-stars as Max, the Dana White character, a promoter always on the lookout for the big money fight. Max appears to have found her next big money fight when she books a professional wrestler named Randy Stone (AEW star Jonathan ‘Moxley’ Good) to face Reiss.

Movie Review: 'The Lie' is an Unintentionally Laugh Out Loud Comedy
The Lie is one of the dumber movies I have seen in a long while. This sleezy production from Blumhouse Productions, better known for cheap horror, than anything remotely like The Lie, wants to put you in the awkward position of being the parents of a child who has murdered a friend. The filmmakers want you to ask what you would do in order to protect your child from going to prison for murder. For a good person, this question is very easy. For the low brain-power characters of The Lie it’s a plot contrivance.

Movie Review: 'Once Upon a River' Despair in the Form of a Movie
Once Upon a River is as close that movies have come to portraying unending despair outside of holocaust documentaries. The suffering on display in Once Upon a River may be mostly emotional for the protagonist, a teenage half native American girl, but it is so unending and unflinchingly presented, that it falls over viewers like London fog, deep, thick, and unsparing in its consumption of all around it.

Movie Review: 'Alive' Starring Angus MacFadyen (Not the good Netflix 'Alive')
This review is something of an experiment. I am hoping that by the end of this writing I will know for sure whether or not I actually like or don’t like the newly released horror movie, Alive starring Angus MacFadyen. I am genuinely of two minds on the movie. On one hand, I watched all the way to the end and I really wanted to know how it all turned out. On the other hand, the lead performances are mediocre at best and only the clumsy mystery at the center of the story kept me watching.
