The Buzz begins
Zzzzzp… zzzzzzzp… zzzp... zzzzzzzzzp... zzzzzzp.. zzzp.. zzzzzzzzzz… TZAP ! Grace shuddered at the sound, as another fly sizzled on the barbecue bars of the violet electric fly trap that hung above her father's grocery store counter. Grace couldn't bear that noise and was determined to smash the dread device. When the store closed for lunch, Grace tiptoed out and stood on a chair, reaching up.

Grand Central
I ended up in Grand Central Station. All I had to decide was what to do and where to go next. As I stood there, a stranger came up and asked me: “Do you need any help?” She was in her early twenties, a fairly plain looking office type but she had a kind face, so I smiled and said thanks and that I wasn’t sure where to go next.

Why do we feel the need to make a record of the world around us in visual form? People have been doing this for tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of years. First with coloured slime scraped from a river bed or the floor of a cave, then with carefully prepared pigments. Now we use digital electronic devices like a smart phones and digital cameras.

A real town called Raymond. Top Story - August 2024.
Quite a few people, having read my flash fiction story, "A Town called Raymond" have asked me whether there really is a town in California called Raymond and yes, there really is. I have mentioned in some of my articles that I like to use fact to give my fictional stories an authentic feel. Whether it is historical or scientific fact, or snippets from my own knowledge, experience or life story, truth can often enhance fiction, if you know how to use it.
