The Golden Key
When I first posted this poem we were still together and through the years many expressed their like for it. It is printed in my book of poems “On the Wings of Love” which I dedicated to him. He has now returned the “golden key to his heart” to me and now waits for me in eternity. What is interesting about our time together is that one day in the summertime while swimming in the Daugava River in Riga, Latvia I found a golden key similar to the one in the photo and took it home. We had that key at home ever since then and I can tell you that after he passed away and I chose to return to the US I don't remember what happened to that key. I guess he really took it with him and for the memories.

Musical Alphabet J
Usually we choose songs we like by the melody, the lyrics, and by the musical genre. I’m starting a series with songs from all kinds of genres going according to the alphabet. Here are songs with titles that begin with the letter J. Links will be posted below as we proceed through the ABCs. At the end you’ll find the links to the songs with titles that begin with the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and I.

The Horror of Frankenstein
Frankenstein and Dracula As a child I was not allowed to watch horror movies so monsters of any kind for me were associated with Halloween. I discovered it myself in my teens when my fascination with horror movies began. My mother’s first horror movie was the classic “Dracula” also released in 1931 with Bela Lugosi portraying the vampire. My parents as immigrants arrived in New York City in 1951 and during the 1950s they released “Dracula” once again in the movie theaters. Well mom was so interested that one evening dad took her to see the movie. She said she was never so frightened in all her life and was holding on tight to dad on the way home. Dad of course, had a great laugh about it all. I first met Frankenstein in the classic horror movie from Universal Pictures that was released in 1931 with Boris Karloff portraying the Monster. So when I asked mom if she would watch “Frankenstein” with me she did, but held onto a glass of wine.

Musical Alphabet Letter I
“(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones became the song that every garage band just had to play if they were going to be successful. In the 1970s it was a standard at every high school dance I went to. The song was written by band members Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and recorded by the English rock band The Rolling Stones. It is featured on their 1965 album Out of Our Heads and became their first number one hit in the US. Rolling Stone magazine has it on their list of The Greatest Songs of All Time and it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. The Library of Congress has added the song to the National Recording Registry.

Anniston is located in Calhoun County Alabama. It was named “The Model City” by a newspaperman because of its careful planning in the late 19th century. The city is situated on the slope of Blue Mountain. It was involved in some of the country’s historic events. The U.S. Army set up training camps nearby during WW I and WW II and during the Civil Rights Movement, a life-changing event took place here. Anniston also offers many outdoor activities.
