Loki and the bonfires of Austria
Long ago in the Norse Kingdom of Asgard, there were two brothers, Thor (the elder) and Loki(the younger). In truth they were not brothers by blood, but to any onlooker, truly they were brought up as bonded brothers. Odin, the father of the boys and God/King of Asgard, decided it was time for Thor to take his place as the new God, as his father grew weary of the task.

Kafka's cockroach in the story 'Metamorphosis'. A sad tale.
The Metamorphosis. In the story, poor Gregor Samsa wakes up one morning to find himself transformed into a "monstrous vermin". He initially considers the transformation to be temporary and slowly ponders the consequences of his metamorphosis. Stuck on his back and unable to get up and leave the bed, Gregor reflects on his job as a traveling salesman and cloth merchant, which he characterizes as being full of "temporary and constantly changing human relationships, which never come from the heart". He sees his employer as a despot and would quickly quit his job if he were not his family's sole breadwinner and working off his bankrupt father's debts. While trying to move, Gregor finds that his office manager, the chief clerk, has shown up to check on him, indignant about Gregor's unexcused absence. Gregor attempts to communicate with both the manager and his family, but all they can hear from behind the door is incomprehensible vocalizations. Gregor laboriously drags himself across the floor and opens the door. The clerk, upon seeing the transformed Gregor, flees the apartment. Gregor's family is horrified, and his father drives him back towards his room. Gregor is injured when he tries to force himself through the doorway (which is too narrow for him) but gets unstuck when his father shoves him through.

In a faraway realm where legends lived, where gods and goddesses reigned supreme, lived the nine Muses, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne. They were the most enchantingly beautiful women ever seen and were known as Calliope, Clio, Polyhymnia, Euterpe, Terpsichore, Erato, Melpomene, Thalia, and Urania. On hills and mountains they did dwell and Homer and Hesiod wrote fondly of them.

Can we become a bit Kafka-esque. Franz Kafka (1883 – 1924) was a German-language novelist and writer from Prague. He is widely regarded as one of the major figures of 20th-century literature. His work fuses elements of realism and the fantastic. It typically features isolated protagonists facing bizarre or surrealistic predicaments and incomprehensible socio-bureaucratic powers. Kafka's work has been interpreted as exploring themes of alienation, existential anxiety, guilt, and absurdity. His best known works include the novella The Metamorphosis and novels The Trial and The Castle. The term Kafkaesque has entered English to describe absurd situations like those depicted in his writing.
