What You Write With
For a lot of writers, writing is as much about their level of comfort as it is the actual writing process. Some writers can tell you, at length, about the process. The process is as much about the writing as it is about the writing tool. I have known writers who are so temperamental about their writing implements, that they have them organized better than their filing cabinets. Hence the picture above.

The Way We See Things
As human beings we are naturally thoughtful. Experiences make us who we are. We get images of people in our mind and that’s how we remember them. Sometimes it creeps up on us that the person who we remember isn’t the person who is standing in front of us. It makes me think of the scene in A Christmas Story where Ralphie gets the pink bunny outfit for Christmas. Even if Ralphie was a girl he’s not a little kid anymore.

Lost Through Generations
When it comes to ranch or farmland, pastures are something that take a lot of time to maintain to ensure that crops and livestock can enjoy the fields. The same thing goes for stories and history. Every family has stories that are told and passed down through generations. But the thing is, we have to keep telling the stories to keep them alive. Eventually, the stories just fade into the people who lived them, and if we're lucky, we'll at least remember the people in the stories.

2020 Reading List
I read a lot. I wouldn't say I'm a prolific reader, but I do my share. When I'm not reading blogs or online articles, nothing beats the old familiarity of a book. A book is something tangible to hold and get close to you. I can get to know the characters and picture them in my mind. I think that's what has always intrigued me about reading. Over the last 12 months, I have kept a chronicle of the books I have read through, both fiction and nonfiction.

Unconventional Writing Books
Every writer is constantly looking for ways to improve, even the greats. Creatives, writers, are their own worst critics, so new technologies are always tempting. Sometimes, the best new techniques and tips come from unexpected places. Sometimes, the best advice comes when and where you least expect it, if you're willing to listen.

Finding Your Voice as a Writer
In writing, we talk a lot about finding your voice. Finding your voice has a lot to do with figuring out what you want to write about, which depends solely on figuring out what kind of writer you want to be. The way I see it, there are three types of writers. The Cynic. The Romantic. The Seeker. While writing is a journey, I think almost, almost all writers fall into one category. But, writers can change categories as they grow.

Tips for a Better Writer
I studied Creative Writing in college. I’ve been writing since then, but only recently began to take it seriously. Of course, the ultimate goal is to make money writing, but that’s not what this article is about. These tips are things that I have been practicing in my writing journey.

The Power of Social Media
In the summer of 2005 I started a small record label called Everafter Music. I was the sole employee and the sole client. By the same time in 2006, I was moving to Lubbock, TX, to finish school at Texas Tech University. Essentially, the company hadn't taken off in that year and I was closing up shop.

Chicken and Rosemary Meatballs with Sautéed Tomatoes and Spinach
These chicken meatballs are something I've been thinking about this one for a while, but have only recently gotten around to making it. I wanted to try something different with meatballs besides beef and veal. I haven't tried it yet, but I would imagine this would go great with lamb in place of the chicken. I'm a big fan of the lamb and rosemary flavor profile. No matter which protein you use, you're welcome to experiment with recipe, these meatballs will go great with a pasta dish!

My Top 7 Books About Writing
I grew up learning how to write in grade school and high school. But the way they taught us to write, didn’t make any sense to me. We were taught to write relying on The Gospel According to the MLA Handbook. This was the way to write research papers and the way our college professors would want us to write papers. It wasn’t until I got to college until I learned just how wrong those words were.

Farewell, Dorothy
Back in college when I was a creative writing student, I took a creative non-fiction workshop. I can’t remember the prompt or the assignment, but wrote one of my favorite pieces in that class. I’ve picked it up a few times over the years to reread and reedit. It’s about saying goodbye to grandmother. It was me saying goodbye twenty years later and when I wrote it I realized I was too young to understand when she passed. I am fortunate to have known her for a short time. And I am fortunate to have the biscuit cutter.
