What Makes a Blogger
I am a blogger. For at least the last decade, what was once viewed as maybe a fad or a hobby for some and reserved for business and journalists by others, has become a widely accepted medium for delivering information. For a lucky few, blogging has become lucrative. These lucky few are able to leave the daily grind behind and go to work for themselves.

Customer Service
I spent a lot of time looking at different companies and how they address the customer experience, whether it is perceived or their actual doctrine. I wanted to send a road map to my team to help them create their own idea of how to properly handle the customer experience.

2022 in Retrospect
2022 has been an interesting year. That's it, that's a look back on 2022. But there's way more than that. We have watched helplessly as interest rates have increased, while the cost of gas, food, and other basic goods have gone up in price. Daily, there are headlines warning us of a looming recession. I hope it is only that and not another financial crisis. The low turnouts at the Black Friday sales might ultimately be the clue we all needed. I think we might be finally choosing family over stuff.

Family Values
No matter what stage of life you find yourself in, whether you are just starting out or with teens or grown kids raising your grands, it is important to keep the focus on family values. These days, we are given lots of different examples of what that means and it can be confusing to know what is right with all of the conflicting information.

Three Books on Blogging
When it comes to writing, in my experience anyway, there is the daunting idea of writing something longer than, say, a short story or essay. The idea of having enough story to fill out an entire novel can be enough to turn some writers away from starting in the first place.

Writing Prompt Responses
The Professor - Write about a teacher that has influenced you Two teachers come to mind. I’ve had influential teachers all through my education, but these are the ones I still somewhat keep in contact with. The first was a high school American history teacher. The second was an English professor at Texas Tech University.

RMS Titanic
Since the first rivet was laid, the Titanic has inspired generations. At the time it was built, she was the largest ship ever constructed. Imagine living in Belfast in the early 1900s walking passed the Harland and Wolf shipyards, and seeing this awesome ship rise from nothing as the steel structure was assembled. I imagine it was like nothing they had ever seen before.

Everything Happens for a Reason
--- The siren sounded for the shift change. Jonah groaned and grunted as he rolled over in his sleeping bag. His back was sore and his muscles were stiff and his joints popped and creek as they moved from sleeping on the ground for the past six months, but this was his job and it was no use complaining about it. He was told that what they were working on was going to benefit the entire community when it was all said and done. Just that was enough to keep him motivated enough to keep going. He looked over at the picture hanging in a frame of twigs on a rope from the ceiling of the tent. It was his family. His wife had sent it to him in her last care package. The smudges of grease and dirty fingerprints made the photograph almost unrecognizable, but he still knew what the blurry photograph represented, and he knew that there were just a few days left until he could go home and see them again. Half asleep, he reached for his boots and fumbled around in the dim light of the tent to get them on his feet. As he grabbed his sketchbook, he realized he only had about half an hour to make it to his perch before sunset.

2021 Reading List
Every year, starting in 2020, I have compiled a list of the books that got me through the year. Typically, and this year was no exception, I read books for religious study, fiction, even books I’ve read before. Books from all over the place, from recommendations or a book that screams at me from the shelf at a book store. 2021 was a great year for reading.

The Sky is Cyan
Back maybe about 20 years ago I was at a weekly Houston area gathering called Metro. Typically there would be a speaker, think early Ted Talks, and some live music. The guest musician that night was a man who I would enjoy many cups of coffee with over the next few years named Seth Woods. As he approached the stage with only an acoustic guitar, a friend leaned over and told me he looked like me in 30 years. We had the same crazy hair and scruffy beards. As luck would have it, I was able to get to know Seth over the next few years. It turned out that we had some mutual friends. When I told Seth this a while later, we realized we were within only a few months of each other! We both had a good laugh about it, but I have to admit that Seth got the short end of that joke.
