The Fighting Lawn Chairs: We Never Fold
I played against this team out of Tulsa one time. This was an AAU basketball tournament around the turn of the millennium. They were called, hand to God, the Fighting Lawn Chairs. The FLCs wore T-shirt jerseys, and under the team name was their rallying cry: We never fold. As I watched Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Wednesday night, I was thinking about the Fighting Lawn Chairs because the Boston Celtics? They fold. They fold slowly, in brutal, spectacular ways. They have turned folding into a grand spectacle. The champs are not here. Haven’t seen them in a few days. The champions were here, and if they don't return soon, summer will begin early. Games 1 and 2 of Celtics-Knicks are sort of an Olyphant-Duhamel situation. They don’t look the exact same, but if you squint, they’re twins. In both games, Boston held 20-point second-half leads and both times managed to fumble the W away in the end. The Celtics are the first team in the play-by-play era to blow multiple 20-point leads in the same postseason, and they did it in back-to-back games. The Knicks, meanwhile, are the first team in the play-by-play era to have 20-point comebacks in consecutive games. This is because the Knicks will not quit and because the Celtics’ shooting has left them. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Derrick White, the team’s three best players, have been unable to get anything going, unable to catch a rhythm; Tatum is shooting 29 percent in the series, and Brown is at 35 percent. In two games, the Celtics have taken 100 3s and made 25. That’s not cold; that’s Snowpiercer.

Shedeur Sanders and the 2025 NFL Draft: A New Chapter Begins
There is no single event on the hype-infused NFL calendar that lends itself more fully to the concept of overreaction than the draft. Just about every pick is examined as a make-or-break decision for the franchise that makes it, regardless of all the historical data about hit rates and any reminders issued about reining in expectations.

What's next and why the Cleveland Browns selected Shedeur Sanders?
The Cleveland Browns traded their 166th and 192nd picks to the Seattle Seahawks to select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the 144th overall pick on Saturday, ending one of the most shocking slides in NFL draft history. A free fall that saw Sanders, regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the class, go from being a potential first-round pick to a Day 3 selection came to an end with this selection. During the predraft process, the Browns spent a lot of time with Sanders. A large group of Browns coaches, executives, and the ownership group went to Boulder, Colorado, to have dinner with him and Travis Hunter, a former teammate, the night before their pro day workout. Sanders now arrives in Cleveland, though much later than many people expected. Sanders's arrival coincides with a turning point in the Browns' history. Last month, owner Jimmy Haslam called the team's 2022 trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson, which cost Cleveland three first-rounders and a fully-guaranteed $230 million contract, a "big swing-and-miss." It marked the first time anyone within the organization publicly acknowledged that the trade failed, despite three seasons of evidence on the field. Since joining Cleveland, Watson has been one of the league's worst quarterbacks. He is expected to miss a lot of the 2025 season because of a right Achilles injury that he suffered in 2024 and then re-tore in the offseason. After selecting Oregon's Dillon Gabriel in the third round, Sanders is the Browns' second quarterback selection in the 2025 draft. Sanders joins a remodeled quarterback room that also includes Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, both of whom were added this offseason.

Shedeur Sanders' Unexpected Draft Slide
At the start of the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday night, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders was considered one of the most significant wild cards. He'll also be a wild card on Friday, it turns out. Sanders, who had a great 2024 season and set an all-time FBS record with a career completion rate of 71.8 percent, was not selected in the first round of the draft. He is now waiting for his fate to be decided ahead of Friday night's start of Round 2. In a video posted to social media after the completion of the first round, Sanders admitted he did not expect to go undrafted Thursday but appeared upbeat.

Robots That Understand You
For a robot, the real world is a lot to take in. Making sense of every data point in a scene can take a huge amount of computational effort and time. Now, MIT roboticists have a method to help robots focus on the features in a scene that are most relevant for assisting humans by cutting through the data noise. Using that information to then decide how to best assist a human is an even more difficult process. A robot can use cues in a scene, such as audio and visual information, to determine a human's objective and then quickly identify the objects that are most likely to be relevant in fulfilling that objective. This method, which they aptly refer to as "Relevance," allows for this. The robot then carries out a set of maneuvers to safely offer the relevant objects or actions to the human. The paper is available on the arXiv preprint server.

The 2025 NFL draft kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday in Green Bay, Wisconsin (ESPN/ABC/ESPN App). We have a pretty good idea of what will happen with the first pick. Barring a shocker, the Tennessee Titans will take Miami quarterback Cam Ward.

A New Color Beyond the Rainbow
The climate keeps changing, despite the Trump administration's attempt to silence the entire phenomenon. If policies continue on their current course, the world is on track to trigger several climate "tipping points," according to a new study released on April 23. These points of no return are specific moments when the planet has warmed so much that certain effects become irreversible.
