Robin in Flight
Robin kicked herself for letting her passport expire. She’d wanted to escape to somewhere more exotic but had to settle for a flight to Miami. From there she could figure out the rest. One step at a time. It had been about an hour since takeoff and the flight attendants were coming down the aisle with pretzels and drinks. Robin very politely asked for some ginger ale to soothe her upset stomach. It wasn’t motion sickness, but something else. Fear? Anxiety? Paranoia?

The Humble Chicken Nugget. Top Story - April 2023.
You are the hot dog of poultry, a breaded mystery meat concoction of dubious origins. Go ahead and keep your secrets, you crunchy little minx! I respect your modified food starch and mechanically separated je ne sais quoi. I honor your likeability and versatility. You are convenient and cheap and available everywhere. You are slowly killing us all, but I’m powerless to resist you.

Meeting in the Middle. Top Story - April 2023.
I am embarrassed to say that I am not great at playing with my daughter. From what I hear from other parents, that’s not uncommon, but it’s still frustrating and it gives me a pretty serious case of mom guilt. When she was a baby, it was easy. All had to do was jingle some keys or give the teddy bear a silly voice. Now things are more complicated. Don’t get me wrong, she has plenty of friends in her classes and around the neighborhood. I am happy to send her outside to play with them whenever possible. I wish that was enough, because I am usually too exhausted to play.

Divine Dining
Deprivation diets do damage Duplicitous dietitians derive dividends Devour dessert ************* This poem was inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow’s now infamous interview where she lists her typical diet consisting of coffee for breakfast, bone broth for lunch, Paleo dinner, and of course, an IV of Glutathione or phosphatidylcholine. The wellness and lifestyle brand mogul faces criticism for promoting disordered eating. You can watch clips from the interview here.

The Caretaker of Cavendish Manor. Top Story - March 2023.
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn't my own. She had the same brown hair, same blackheads, same tired eyes looking back at me, but somehow I knew she was a fake. It was in the expression on her face, as if she was keeping a secret. I scoffed at her, spraying the antique mirror with some cleaning solution and wiping it with a cloth. The rest of the parlor’s furnishings were shrouded in dust covers. I thought it best to keep them covered and only use what was necessary.

My Daughter's Favorite Books
My 8 year old loves to read. I credit my husband, who began homeschooling her in 2020. We read to her often when she was little. It was so rewarding when she’d cuddle up, laughing at the funny parts and gasping at the exciting parts of the story.

Doe Money, Doe Problems
“Get a real job,” they said. “Frolicking in the woods won’t pay the bills no matter how ‘majestic’ you are.” So I got my resume together, made a Linkedin profile, and applied to a bunch of places. It took about six months, but I finally got a job at a company that handles intellectual property. It’s not what I went to school for, just something I could learn on the job.
