Gramma's Hands
It was an unusually warm spring day, by Southern California standards anyway. I sat in a chair in the garage, watching people paw through boxes of old junk in my grandmother’s driveway, my feet swinging back and forth between the white plastic legs, my toes not reaching the ground.

The day is bright. A few whisps of clouds break up the monotony of blue. Breezes flow in off the cool, serene waters of the Pacific and through the open window beside me, the sheer curtains gently billowing. Standing before the full-length mirror, I ponder at the person I see before it.

Waiting for Sunrise
“Hannah? Hannah!” Jake threw a wadded-up hamburger wrapper leftover from dinner at my face. His aim was perfect, as usual, but what did you expect from the starting quarterback of the high school football team? He had it all. Great grades, the looks, and girls falling for him left and right. He never let any of it get to him though. He was just the same down-to-earth guy I’d grown up with always hanging out in his parents’ basement when we were bored.
