What's In A Name?
Josey isn't my birth name. Sometimes it confuses people, why did I change it? What's wrong with the name I had? People from my past have a hard time adjusting to the name change and using it for themselves. Sometimes they slip, but for the most part, everyone tries, even if they don't quite understand WHY. I spent most of my life under a different name, and my adult life under a nickname that would become my new first name. I get how it can be a difficult adjustment, but I also try to be open about why when people get critical.

Summertime Same-Ness
I grew up a military brat, hoping from location to location, sometimes with only 6 months to a year in between moving. There were new schools & sack lunches, unpacking boxes and my mom’s melt in your mouth pot-roast… and then there were summers and my parents BBQ.

Sittin on the dock of the bay
There are many things that make me think of my Father. Cuban cigars, hostess cupcakes, sugar cane & Otis Redding. I can’t hear (Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay without immediately thinking of him humming along to the oldies station growing up. We spent a lot of time in the car together, road trips, errands, going to the movies and the mall nearly every weekend. There little things that remind me of my father interweave like a woven tapestry that makes up what I have left of my father...memories. Memories of those mall visits ending with a trip to Sweet Factory and why certain candy will always remind me of him, like Circus Peanuts and Tart & Tiny's. Sailboats on the horizon remind me of him, and sometimes I like to think he's not really gone but chasing the sunset in his boat, smoking a cigar as he steers.

All Hail Kate Bush
Stranger Things season 4 dropped over memorial weekend and THE song of the season is “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush, and the popularity of the song on platforms like TikTok have made the near four decade old song a top ten hit again. The song, from her 1985 album Hounds of Love, has been re-recorded a handful of times (a well known cover was done by Placebo and most recently by Meg Myers) but there’s something truly unbeatable about the original.

The Keepers of the Light
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. King Cassian’s peaceful reign had guaranteed it. The land flourished, the people thrived and no darkness invaded the Tiralyne valley. Even the surrounding lands benefited from the king’s kind reign and even the forest folk & plains people had found peace with the valley kingdom after years of tension.
