Shaftized
Shaftized - A euphoric infatuation with the genre of Blaxploitation in film that develops after watching the film Shaft. I was Shaftized as a baby so I really don’t remember how it felt at first, but I do know how it has felt ever since. The story of the 1971 movie Shaft is centered around an African American private detective named John Shaft, portrayed by Richard Roundtree, who was hired by a New York gangster to rescue his daughter from the clutches of the Italian mafia. Along the way Shaft battles the relations of racial and social issues that plague the Black community.

Dewey Lives
April 15, 2013, Woodsboro, California. At the Woodsboro police station, Sheriff Dewey Riley is finishing up some paperwork before ending his night. While putting his belongings away at his desk he looks over at a picture of his wife Gale and gives a light smile and chuckle. Gale is away on her book tour after covering the story of the Woodsboro massacre reboot that took place two years ago. Dewey’s concentration was suddenly broken when deputy Judy Hicks knocks on his office door and peeks her head in to check on Dewey. “Hey Sheriff” she began. “I’m gonna go pick up Wes and then I’m headed home for the night, you good?” “Sure thing, deputy.” Dewey responded. “Have a good night, Judy.” Dewey concluded. As Judy smiled at him and left the station the phone on Dewey’s desk suddenly rang.

Joe-ism
Ashley never thought in a million years that hanging around her best friend and Vocal writer, Joe Patterson would come with consequences. Joe often joked that hanging around him too much would lead to what he referred to as “Joe-ism”. According to Joe himself, Joe-ism is when you unconsciously start mimicking the ways of Joe because you’ve soaked them up so much in his presence. Ashley was sure it wasn’t going to happen to her.

Hazel October
So I’m up on this Friday morning gettin’ ready to start my day, but I’m a little down. It’s the beginning of October and while I have nothing against the tenth month of the year, it still marks the end of my favorite time of year, the summer. I’m gonna miss the cookouts, warm weather, swimming , and clear heated nights among other things. Now I’m walking to the store a couple blocks away to go do some light shopping and I’m starting to notice something. There’s a new energy in the air. Something vibrant, but different than what I felt over the summer. It catches my drift, but then I quickly brush it off and head inside the store, which greeted me with something unexpected.

Maggie is sitting up on her bed scrolling through the social media feed on her phone, anxious and uneasy. All she could think about was how she was supposed to be at that party and how it could have been her who was hurt. Maggie was also very concerned about her cousin and his friends. She was glad that all of them made it out of that situation alive, but rumor has it that others were not so lucky.

Icons of Horror: Jason Voorhees
“His name was Jason…” - Pamela Voorhees. In 1980 writer Victor Miller and director Sean. S Cunningham crafted a horror film that would make critics start calling all in its class “slasher films”. That film was Friday the 13th and it’s central character’s name is Jason Voorhees. Ever since his conception he has been known as a silent killer who ironically speaks loud volumes of the American conscious. He is also one of the greatest icons in the history of horror.
