Me an’ Bobby an’ my eight-year old daughter, Kylie, were staying with my sister. She got a double wide set up at the Shady Acres in Leb’non. It was real nice. Maybe there weren’t as much room with us being there and all, but we was doing okay. Ev’rybody was getting along pretty good, right up til Bobby lost his job. That’s when she put us out. All of us. Me. Bobby. An’ Kylie.

The Molly Maguires Club
Randi was frantic. Panicked. Every textbook. Every notebook. Her gym bag. Her pencil case. Every last thing from her locker spilled out onto the gray tile of the floor. She sank to her knees. Held her head in her hands and tried to steady her breathing that was coming hard and irregular. Her face reddened and beads of sweat quivered on her upper lip.

"I'm a cop. It's what I do. What I am. Really." He says this as a declaration, but his tone drifts towards the open ceiling. Gets lost in the ambient music. Sweeps along the course of the black iron beams and drowns in the roar of the forced air. The heat.

I could feel the end of it before I could taste our first kiss. I heard it, as familiar as the latch of the screen door. Knew it as surely as I know the sound of a pump action .22. I could almost run my fingers through it just as soon as it was too late to return. I think you knew it too. But you were so earnest in your want. So dedicated to your need.
