They Come in 3s: Part 1
She came to me on the first day at this lovely seaside town. I was on the pier, admiring the sunset, when a porpoise shot out of the water and turned to purposely and porpoisely exhale a plume of water at me. It was a miracle, this roguish act of nature.

Days of Future Past
For this Story-a-Day, January 22, 2024, I wrote it (will write?) on January 23, which on January 22, is (was?) the future. I had hit writer's block. I was empty. And I was frantic. I had been doing so well. But a story a day is a bit of a challenge (hence, it being a challenge). So, here I am, on the 23 day of the challenge, writing for the 22nd. As if I really did. Who can I fool with this slight-of-hand cardshuffling anyway? Here goes... and remember, it's today, not yesterday, written tomorrow as if it were now, back then. Whoo, I'm a bit dizzy.

One Line Says It All (All the World's a Stage)
January 21 being "National One-Liners Day" amused him, because the one-liner was a unique construct. He recognized it shared something with poetry, packing into so few words entire treatises — entire expositions. It wasn't some aphorism with just a beginning, middle, and end. One-liners are deceptive in that they're not really linear. Pithy wisdom is a tessaract in the human mind.

So Many Commemorations, So Few Days
January 19 is National Popcorn Day, National Gun Appreciation Day, and New Friends Day. True, these are the product of self-promotion on the part of, as examples, The Popcornhusker State, PopNebraska; the gun lobby, who feels we should appreciate how guns — VERY easily — put extra holes in people; and — perhaps — your old friends who think it might be time to get some new friends.
