The Way Things Used To Be
One cannot help wonder by looking at the events that are occurring around the world today that maybe we would all wish things were back the way they used to be. Long before the Internet and smart phones we managed quite nicely with rotary telephones and remoteless TVs. We actually had to get up to change the TV channel. There were only three channels so there wasn't much debate on what channel to turn to. Not like it is today. Many of us can even remember the days before families got their first television set. Back then the radio was the family entertainment. Imagination is a wonderful experience. But, as we look around today there is too much stress, worry, and even with all those technological marvels of modern living today we really aren't connected like people were those many years ago.

A Nation Beguiled
For years now the United States has been running on empty. Empty promises of better times ahead. Instead our future is bleak. Our financial system is nothing more than a house of cards. Public education has turned out generations of substandard students. Our inner cities most of whom look like third world countries. What employment opportunities there are don't even come close to offering living wages. All of these and more are attributed to elected officials caring more about campaign contributions than the people they are supposed to serve. The many consequences of a democratic system that has become so inept and corrupt has now been further exasperated by the media in their complicity to pursue an agenda that is completely against the basic principles on which our nation was founded upon.

Moody River
Remember Pat Boone and those white buckskin shoes? The good old days of early rock and roll. Back then the giants of the pop music world were Elvis, Pat Boone, and Ricky Nelson. But if my recollection still is sound it was Elvis who captivated audiences with his unique style when he appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. I remember my parents so aghast that anyone could appear on national television and perform the way Elvis Presley did. My father was a concert violinist back in the roaring '20's. I guess my whole family when I was growing up was very musically inclined. But it was my parents who couldn't quite fathom the notion that rock and roll was actually a new kind of music much like rap and hip hop has become today.

The Energy Of Human Emotion
"May the force be with you." Science fiction? Maybe not! It is proven that every living thing emits energy. Our ability to harness and constructively use it is just beginning to be developed. An emotional response for survival is probably the closest in explaining this phenomenon of energy that is in every living organism.

Another Day In Paradise
As one travels through the cities and towns across the United States you see the faceless multitudes drifting from place to place. For you and me it is just another day in paradise. But, for those countless millions all across the country their plight continues unmercifully with no respite in sight. Day after day, night after night those weary souls are just left out in the cold. Their plight has only grown in numbers. As of today in the state of Washington alone there are over 60,000 children roaming the streets. That is just the children that they account for. And, there are thousands more adults, and families seeking shelter each night. These numbers themselves indicate that their is something drastically wrong in our society today. In New York City there are close to 70,000 homeless adults and children and many more encamped in old subway tunnels. The fact of the matter is that in every major city and even in rural areas their is a growing percentage of our population forced into a vicious cycle that is almost impossible to break free.

The 21st Century Challenge
The die has been cast, the gauntlet thrown, do we dare pick up the challenge or do we retreat to our safe haven of complacency? For too long we have ignored the warning signs of what we have done to our planet by our continued drilling, extracting, processing and consuming fossil fuel sources. Ever since the first Industrial Revolution mankind has been consumed with it's unquenchable thirst for energy sources that are known to be detrimental to every form of life on this planet and yet we continue our onslaught of destruction by not fully integrating alternate fuel sources that will have a beneficial impact on not only the environment but have a very profound and positive effect on humanity as well.

A Divine Obligation
" He who hath come into this world has a divine obligation to serve humanity." This quote sums up what mankind should do, and should continue to do for the betterment, enrichment, and enlightenment of every human being on earth. To often though mankind has deviated from this path and instead caused, is causing, and will continue to cause horrific suffering of unimaginable magnitudes upon all living things.

Mr. Lucky
Some people go through life without the slightest bit of luck. Stuck in dead end jobs, or marry the wrong one. It has been said that all too often a certain amount of luck happens to, you guessed it, certain people. But what is being lucky all about? Can people change their luck or can they create circumstances where one is more prone to success than the other just by chance? Or is it just plain dumb luck that happens to some not only periodically but practically every day? Webster defines luck or chance, as it is sometimes associated with luck, as an event which occurs beyond one's control, without regard to one's will, intention, or desired result. It can be said your are a lucky person if you walk into a Las Vegas casino where at the poker table your first hand is a Royal Flush with a pot that is beyond imagination. Then, again one might be considered lucky if you got to kiss the girl of your dreams and live happily ever after. It is also the chance happening of fortunate or adverse events; fortune: They met one day out of pure luck. Good fortune or prosperity; success: We wish you luck all are connotations associated with being lucky.

The Year 2525
"In the Year 2525, if man is still alive, if women can survive, they may find." That opening to one of the most memorable hit songs of the late 60's set a very ominous tone for the future of mankind. Subsequent verses pick up a very foreboding story of mankind spanning 10,000 years. As with Nostradamus's disturbing predictions, Zager & Evans constructed an altogether more disturbing and sobering scenario for the future of humanity. A little more than 500 years from now we may find mankind at the mercy of all the technology we have created.

Dinner At Eight
For some time now almost all of the food that we buy in grocery stores has been altered is some way or another. In other words, genetically altered or as they say GMO is the term used today. I for one don't relish the idea of eating genetically altered or modified food of any sort. But, today with a company called Monsanto having a monopoly of seed production the food we eat already has been genetically modified in some way or another. Take for instance Soy. What Monsanto has done with soy beans has caused many people to think twice about what they are eating. In most cases what we are eating today is a major contributor to a whole slew of ailments and diseases. The problem today stems form the fact that soy is found in so many food products and is the most common genetically modified organism in all of our food supply. It has been altered to withstand the applications of herbicides. Just imagine we are eating foods with traces of Roundup already infested in the soy products in our food. Talk about killing the Goose that laid the golden egg. Well people, we are the geese that are laying the golden eggs in our whole economy with our consumer spending. And when we die off who is left to buy products?

The Vagabond's Odyssey
In the year 2187, one hundred years after the Great War, the earth is still scorched. Smoldering relics of a time now forgotten litter the land as far as the eye can see. Among the few surviving humans now emerging from the caves comes the one man able to save the rest of humanity. A man whose steely blue eyes and white hair have weathered years in quiet desolation, exiled far below the earths surface. Now, as he emerged gazing over all that surrounds not a bird in sight, no trees to see only the emptiness of a barren land laid before him.

Crisis: Water
Whatever you may think of the Syrian crisis, the Iran nuclear agreement, or the troubles with North Korea, there still remains an undercurrent of economic uncertainty in every part of the world today. That economic uncertainty stems from the fact that fresh water isn't available to millions the world over. When we here about our own infrastructure failings right here in the good old USA too many of our elected officials omit the plain fact of the matter that access to fresh water is vital for all other infrastructure projects to succeed. And without access to fresh water our whole economy will crumble.
