Juveniles Serving Life Sentences
Do children deserve life sentences if they kill another person? The U.S.A. is the only country in the world with life imprisonment for murder offenders under the age of 18., although in 2012, the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional to sentence a juvenile to life without parole possibility. Around 2,500 inmates serving life in U.S. prisons committed crimes as juveniles and another 10,000 have been incarcerated since before their 18th birthdays.

Almost four years ago, Davohnte Morgan, 28, disappeared from Mt. Shasta, California during a vacation with his girlfriend. His brother said Vohnte’s girlfriend did not seem concerned that he never returned to their hotel room after an argument, and police suspect she knows more about his disappearance than she has told.

Anthony Borges saw Nikolas Cruz armed with an AR-15 as he walked up the stairwell to the third floor of Building 12 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Borges and other students on the third floor heard the chaos and gunfire underneath them. Students weren't sure exactly what was going on but knew danger lurked about. They attempted to hide inside of classrooms.

On March 21, 2008, Alyssa Haag called her mother and asked her to drive her 18-month-old daughter, Jayla Watters, from her El Dorado apartment to a Topeka hospital. Jayla was limp, her eyes rolled back in her head. Jayla’s grandmother repeated the story Alyssa had told her about the injuries: she had fallen down a flight of stairs.
