'Sesame Street' Roomies Ernie and Bert Inspired By LGBTQ+ Relationship?
It's an argument that has been hashed over for decades: Are #Ernie and #Bert gay? I'm really not sure why such an argument would even exist, to be honest, but thanks to Emmy-winning writer and playwright Mark Saltzman, who wrote for Sesame Street from 1985 to 1998, we might have a partial answer. Saltzman says like most writers, he writes about what he knows, and as far as Sesame Street was concerned, it was his own relationship with late film editor Arnold Glassman that inspired the dynamic between #ErnieandBert.

Jason Momoa, We Love You!
I was first introduced to Jason Momoa through my husband. Maybe that's not an entirely accurate statement, but hear me out. My husband used to watch Stargate: Atlantis regularly. As a result, I ended up at the very least being in the room when the show was on. I'd never really watched the TV series Stargate; I really wasn't a big fan of the original movie starring James Spader and Kurt Russell, so the thought of slogging through a series based off of the film was not one I entertained. However, my husband loves science fiction series, and so, I ultimately absorbed bits and pieces of Stargate: Atlantis through a form of osmosis.

There are two feelings that you somehow can't forget: being excluded and feeling as though you're somehow "less than." According to #TheLastJedi's Kelly Marie Tran, who played maintenance worker Rose Tico, that feeling that she was somehow "other" was one that she thought was left behind her long ago. According to an essay she wrote for TheNew York Times, it was when she became a target for online trolls that these long-buried feelings came back to the surface. That was when she made the decision to delete her Instagram account.

We are on a journey of self-discovery throughout our lives. Nowhere does this seem to be truer than during the turbulent times known as adolescence. Kids go through a tremendous amount of growth, both physically and cognitively, and through it all, there's a tremendous pressure to be successful, know what you want to be when you grow up, and get into a great school so that when all is said and done, you can go off and be a great adult one day.

Why Shows like 'Returning the Favor' Give Hope
Like many other people, I have been known to scroll through my Facebook feed and click on videos that I find interesting, informative, or funny. One day earlier this summer, I was drawn to a video tagged Returning The Favor. I had no idea what the video would be about, and in all honesty, the video's subject escapes me while writing this. I suppose it doesn't really matter, as I wait eagerly for the next instalment of the show to drop on Facebook Watch. At the time, I saw that Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs was involved, so I was in. I've always liked him, so I was curious about what would draw him to a show on Facebook Watch.

How 'Queer Eye' Hooked Me
When Queer Eye for the Straight Guy first debuted in July 2003, I was just 30-years-old and was not honestly a huge fan of the reality show experience in general. To be honest, I did not think reality TV as a whole genre had any sort of survivability, and while I thought the original grouping of Carson Kressley, Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas, Thom Filicia, and Jai Rodriguez had their charms, I really wasn't into watching makeover shows in general. I just didn't get it.

Should Disney Re-Hire James Gunn?
It would seem that the Guardians of the Galaxy have James Gunn's back. Gunn, who was ousted from the third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise over tweets he made a decade ago which apparently had pedophilia and rape as the subject, was fired a couple of weeks ago. At the time, Walt Disney Studios chair Alan Horn called the tweets "indefensible" and "inconsistent" with Disney's values, and Gunn, who directed the first two installments of the Guardians of the Galaxy, said he understood the business decision that Disney had made in firing him.

Unless You've Been Where Demi Lovato Is, Stand Down
If I was to be completely honest, I've never been a huge fan of Demi Lovato. Don't get me wrong. The woman's got a serious set of pipes and is an amazing singer. I admire that. What I have admired more in recent months is her outspokenness when it comes to mental health and addiction. She's been honest about the stuff she's dealt with over the last few years, and she's really become someone for young people to admire. She's someone to admire not just for her singing ability - what she's dealt with is something which no one should ever have to deal with, and yet far too many people do.

Murder of Emmett Till Reopened Nearly 63 Years Later
When I was first introduced to the case of Emmett Till, I was teaching an English class at an adult learning centre. As part of an introductory activity leading into the study of To Kill A Mockingbird, students were to prepare a presentation about any historical situation, either past or present, that discussed notions of racism. A student called me over to ask me what I thought about what she'd put together on her presentation so far.
