saving the present from the past. Content Warning.
I recently wrote about comparing modern people to Nazis. This was shortly after visiting the site of the Bergen Belsen concentration camp. One of the things the guide told us resonated with me, children, soldiers and visiting soldiers come here as a warning. They are shown around the camp, the mass graves and the memorials, part of the past is revealed. Its to warn people of something that happened and a warning ever to let it happen again.

listen
Listen, focus and concentrate. I am going to explain to you what happened and why. It hurts me to remember it and hurts more to say it out loud. So this will be the full sorry tale, there will be all the information you need and at the end there should be no questions. If I miss anything out you will have to ask someone else. I am getting old and tired, just want to get a few things off my chest before I go.

Nazis. Content Warning.
I am just back from a week long cruise, including Germany, Holland and Belgium. While in Germany we went to the site of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. It was constructed as a prisoner of war camp but in 1943 part became a concentration camp. The original plan was to hold Jewish prisoners so they could be exchanged for German prisoners of war held abroad. Within a relatively short period 70,000 people died there, many from illness and lack of hygiene. The huts were rammed full of people, many couldn’t get inside away from the elements. Indeed after the liberation the huts were burned to protect the surrounding area from the diseases, such as typhoid.

Jumper to it
Roughly once a year the" reaching for the jumper " ritual begins. It lives in the darkest recess of my wardrobe. I have owned it for around 20 years but would guess 36 days in that time I have worn it. I have calculated this as there have to be very special conditions for wearing it.

a bad sign
The long, white, seemed to somehow get closer together as they carried his view forward. The building had once been full of screaming kids and struggling parents. The kids wanted the right toy, the food not a focus till the toy was checked. The tantrums seemed to move around the room as more young customers opened their boxes, dug through the food to see what moulded plastic laid at the bottom.

after dark. Content Warning.
I wish I was better at telling lies. I could tell my wife I love the haircut, tell the server the food was great or tell my boss the work will be done by Friday. The reason I wish I could lie better is because it would soon be time to use the skill I hadn't got. It was going to be a beating, maybe a murder, of someone who deserved it. Unfortunately saying that in a police interview probably wouldn't work.

there arent more people with autism
When a certain part of the internet starts shouting at me or when parents of autistic children speak up I tell them my qualifications. Firstly I am the parent of 2 adult autistic kids, I work with autistic adults and I have researched the subject for 35 years. I have had numerous on line arguments on the subjects, many of them trying to explain my headline argument.

A night of isolation
Now was my chance to see if our health service was worth its salt. A simple visit to the doctors ended up with a not so simple visit to the hospital. I rang the doc for more pain killers, I told her I knew what would work for me . Unlike the others she wanted me to go to her for yet more tests.

Seal rock
Finally the time had come, summer holiday time. A whole 14 days without work. I had been counting the days for many months, work wasn't going well so the break was needed. A long drive to the coast but always worth the effort. The worst part was the going home.
