Maybe I still see rockets in the sky. Top Story - October 2025.
I remember looking to the sky in my youth and thinking every plane a rocket, every bird a dragon, every wind a whistle, light and high. The trees would sway in the breeze and I would sway with them, the connection between us something I could feel in my bones, but never say aloud. I never said very much then, but I felt it all: the immensity of this world as a child within it. I remember pulling back coarse branches and parting prickly bushes; I remember how my hands felt in the mud, grass tickling against my palms, my fingers caked with dirt. I remember the feel of the smooth, cool rocks, the wriggling of worms, the smell of rain in the air. I remember my early winters, bundled in jackets and scarves, lying face first in the snow, wishing never to leave.

the tree of me. Top Story - August 2025.
Last night, my dreams were encased in a cloak of darkness, and I could not make them out. Yet when I awoke this morning, the sun gleamed beyond my window just the same, and the vicious pounding of my heart was eased by the familiarity of its glow.

i don’t know who i am; i just know who i’m not. Top Story - August 2025.
One time, in kindergarten, my teacher was fed up with how talkative my class was being—aside from me, because with my anxiety and people-pleasing tendencies combined, I was always on my best behavior. That day, I was the only one allowed to participate in our daily “rest” period, where we would relax and snack on whatever our parents packed for us and chat with each other. I was usually always silent during these, not really having many friends at the time. But that day, at the teacher’s command, the entire room was silent. The rest of my classmates sat there, heads in their arms in the dark, staring at me as I crunched on my goldfish and drank my little water bottle, feeling every bit as awkward as I was oddly proud of being the only one who had followed the rules.

rooftop thinking
Atop my roof, I can see the world from a bird’s eye view. I can see the colors of all the cars, hear the blaring sirens, feel the wind in my hair. I can think my thoughts all to myself. I can contort my face into any expression. I can jump and smile and skip and scream. I can dance and sing and swing around the chimney. I can cry with my head in my hands. I can cackle like a supervillain, or hold my head high and grin like a superhero.

Thank You, Chrollo
Spoilers for the Hunter x Hunter anime and manga! — Chrollo Lucilfer Chrollo is one of the most beloved villains in Hunter x Hunter, and for good reason. He is a very mysterious and interesting character in how tricky he can be to understand, so I want to preface this analysis by saying that all of the following is just my opinion and my personal interpretation of Chrollo’s character—unlike my Makima analysis, which is all fact. (She told me herself.)
