Red One (Review)
Wanting to see some light-hearted entertainment, we decided to go the movie theater and bought tickets to the movie Red One, starring J.K. Simmons and Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a. The Rock, rated PG-13. The film begins with a boy who wants to spoil the mystery of Santa Claus for his friends and how it canât possibly be true that presents are delivered to all children in one night. He is admonished by an adult as he is revealing his reasons.

Cherished Handmade Gift
An expected package with unknown content arrived today. A Vocal Creator told me it would be coming; she made it. I was overwhelmed by its beauty and her thoughtfulness as I read the note inside. Then, the television announced what a special day today was. I held out the gift to show my husband.

Shopping is Stressful
I find it difficult to go shopping since the pandemic. I told someone about that today, and she agreed, saying it seemed that people didn't know how to act socially in public places, and have less courtesy ever since the pandemic. She's quite a bit younger than I am, so I was surprised to find that she also felt anxiety in the stores.

The author, Kelly Barnhill, created a rich and fascinating world that parallels America's history in many ways. I found the book relevant in this 2024 U.S. presidential election season, where misogyny and the continued desire to control women are prevalent. The populace in the novel bans the discussion of dragons and does their best to ignore the facts of any metamorphosis.

Clever Costumes
As kids, we always were excited for Halloween. In the Midwest, the weather was usually chilly, rainy, and windy that day, but it never stopped us, nor would our parents think to keep us in. We weren't driven to wealthy neighborhoods. Frankly, we were not driven anywhere, no matter the weather (that is a whole separate story). If we wanted to go, we toughed out in all weather conditions. We ran up the streets if it was raining; our umbrellas turned inside out from the wind some years, but nothing stopped us from getting our treats.
