After a quick eye test at my pre-school when I was three years old, my parents were advised to take me to the eye doctor. Now, at the young age of three, I had started showing some subtle signs of my bad vision. First, I sat incredibly close to the TV. this continued after I got glasses as well, but mainly from habit and the comfort of doing so. Next, I was pretty clumsy, but that's not entirely unusual for a toddler, and honestly, my family is pretty clumsy.

On the first day of my high school Spanish class, a girl behind me said, "Why do we have to learn Spanish? It's so much harder than English." Obviously, this tone deaf comment is exactly one that a frustrated language learner (especially one that is a teenage girl) would make. However, even I, a fellow teenage girl at the time, saw the flaw and inappropriate nature of the comment. It wouldn't be for a few years though, in my college linguistics class that I would actually learn just how wrong she was.

To Understand American Obesity, You Have To Understand American Poverty. Top Story - December 2021.
During my ecogastronomy class, we discussed how the processing of food is contributing to obesity in the US. In this discussion, the Whole30 diet came up. The Whole30 diet encourages eating only whole foods which means no processed foods and sugar (real or artificial), dairy, legumes, and sweets of any kind. While we didn't discuss the specifics, someone in class said, "How is that a diet?!" Other students were similarly surprised that many people don't eat only organic produce or the fact that at least one third of our university’s campus suffered from food insecurity.
